Which placement do you prefer?

Summers are major craft show prep time for me. I'm lining up ideas. If you let me know which of these lay-outs you like best, it'd help. :-) I posted before borders/bindings/quilting because I want your idea on placement only. I appreciate it!
A. Lined up blocks. B. Dancing blocks.

mmac71 04-04-2016 05:20 PM

I like the "Dancing" set up.

lynnie 04-04-2016 05:21 PM

i like the first one better, not so random. but that's just me. I'm sure you'll get arguments for both of them.

indycat32 04-04-2016 05:22 PM

I prefer the dancing blocks

QM 04-04-2016 05:22 PM

Definitely dancing.

I also like the first, but agree w/Lynnie's observation. Pretty!

sewbizgirl 04-04-2016 05:29 PM

I like the linear setting. (Not dancing.)

vovoa 04-04-2016 05:42 PM

I like dancing.

sallie789 04-04-2016 05:55 PM

I like the lined up best although they're both awesome!

MadQuilter 04-04-2016 06:12 PM

I like the lined up version. It's hard for me to be spontaneous in layout.

Anniedeb 04-04-2016 06:16 PM

I prefer "A"! I love your colors....happy sewing!

erstan947 04-04-2016 06:32 PM

Love the dancing!

alikat110 04-04-2016 07:04 PM

Either works, and I usually like things not so symmetrical or lined up, but I actually prefer the first one on this.... nice work

QuiltnNan 04-04-2016 07:13 PM

I like the "Dancing"

Tartan 04-04-2016 07:48 PM

The lined up ones look orderly and the dancing ones have more movement. Totally up to you and which will display best for sale.

daisydawg 04-04-2016 08:36 PM

I like the lined up the best. It's just my style.

joe'smom 04-04-2016 09:54 PM

Either one looks great. I guess I prefer the lined up one, because I feel like I want to reach out and straighten the staggered ones, LOL.

DOTTYMO 04-04-2016 10:03 PM

I prefer the lined up set.the dancing ones are too random for me.

Prism99 04-04-2016 10:24 PM

I prefer the lined up setting for these particular blocks because there is so much movement already in the fabrics. For me, the dancing setting detracts from focus on the wonderful fabrics.

I prefer the lined up ones too--and your reason helps me to understand why. :-)

kathy 04-05-2016 02:23 AM

I vote, dancing.

quilterpurpledog 04-05-2016 02:35 AM

I like the first one because the shadow effect complements the wide variety of very interesting fabrics. To add the element that makes them dance causes a loss of visual unity and focus.

ManiacQuilter2 04-05-2016 03:14 AM

I like them both. I prefer rectangle shape for placemats. You really want to keep them quick to make or at least that is how I did things out here in CA to keep the price down.

barnbum 04-05-2016 03:16 AM

This is interesting. So far here, it's 12:7 in favor of straight grid. On a fb group it's 8:10 in favor of dancing. I love the comments! Your ideas are things I think but can't find the words to express. I'll tally again when I get home from work. Looks like I'll be making some of both.

I'm wondering if the preference would change when a different fabric is used.

Thanks for your help!

I agree on skipping extras to keep price down. The straight grid is definitely quicker.

bjchad 04-05-2016 03:44 AM

Chalk up another vote for dancing.

giquilt 04-05-2016 04:17 AM

Here is an ambiguous answer. I liked the Straight set in the single picture but the Dancing side by side. So if you are making a single quilt I vote for Straight.

orangeroom 04-05-2016 04:38 AM

I prefer the dancing one too! Nice!

sandrab64 04-05-2016 05:50 AM

The OCD viewers will go for the first one! Love them both and always nice to see something different!

feline fanatic 04-05-2016 05:52 AM

I like the 2nd. More visually stimulating. Especially if this is to be hung in a place where children can enjoy it.

Annie68 04-05-2016 05:54 AM

I'd go with the lined up, fabulous colors!

Maybe that's my problem... :o I like the first, straight one MUCH better!

Jordan 04-05-2016 07:23 AM

I really like the dancing one.

imsewnso 04-05-2016 07:26 AM

Like the first one best. Dancing fabric needs straightening. lol

Bree123 04-05-2016 07:37 AM

Oohhhh! I like them both! My initial thought was "the first one!" but then I started thinking about all the stunning ways that the second one could bring out a beautiful quilting design. I really don't think you could go wrong either way!

quilting cat 04-05-2016 11:01 AM

"A" for sure! Your fabrics already dance, and the second layout makes me dizzy!

Tumdarra 04-05-2016 11:20 AM

I vote for dancing also

audsgirl 04-05-2016 01:01 PM

These are both great, which makes it hard to choose. I think I like the first one better. It seems to me to make a bigger statement of the shadow effect.
