You are definitely doing a good deed for the mother who lost her child. God bless you!

I too would use a white slashing. I made a pinwheel without smashing & regretted it after it was completed. Too busy and you can't see where one stops & the next starts.

I would consider turning the blocks around, placing the yellow ones in the center and lining the other ones up to end with the dark ones at the edges. This could remind her that the sun is still shining through the clouds of the other ones around it. Make up a good story. Thanks for doing that for her.

I would use a narrow, white sashing with a random print square block at each corner between the blocks. Love the blocks.

I would be tempted to not use sashing at all. But, if you want to, consider white sashing with assorted color cornerstones. The small colored squares might look nice with the diagonal lines of the blocks. I would probably do a solid white border the same size as the sashing and then an outer border of whatever color you want to feature. Or, perhaps an outer border of all the colors pieced together (not a piano border, a lengthwise one). Please post a pic of what you decide to go with. Really like the top, colorful and vibrant but not too busy.

I think it would look great with an "invisible" sashing of the same fabric as the background. That would separate the whirlygigs a bit without putting each in a box.
Prayers of comfort for that mom who lost her son. I can't even imagine losing one of mine... |
Wonderful colors!
I think white sashing around the center 6 blocks and also inside the “outer row” would calm the eyes and not take away from the classy look. A same-size border and binding in red would be nice also. You are very sweet to be making this quilt for her. |
