O.K. I signed up! :D

cutebuns 07-03-2009 12:55 PM

whoo hoo, now I will have lots of company on the 12th doing it.

The fabric is going to have to wait for another day, I have company coming and just not the time to make the long trip in and out, soent to much time playing with monkeys I guess.

Omak, did you find your reds yet?

Have LOTs of reds .... finding the light fat quarters ... that is a different story <g> ... this is getting really exciting, isn't it?
and, having all the pieces cut beforehand is really essential, though, printing it out and working on it later wouldn't be a deadly sin ... but, it would sort of defeat the whole purpose of the special quilting day project, then, wouldn't it?

cutebuns 07-03-2009 10:55 PM

It is getting really exciting, I am looking and looking and looking for purples. I might have to double up on tha few of them, I don't want to have to though. It would be nice to have a few minutes to go to the fabric store and jsut get a couple of quarter yards and if they are still 3.70 a yard, it will be next to nothing that I will be paying for them. Which will be awesome. There is company here tonight and more is supposed to be coming tomorrow. I am going to get it cut and marked. I know I have a pencil for that around here somewhere, if not I will pick one up when I am looking for purple.

omak 07-03-2009 11:04 PM

I am a happy camper.
Another calf just hit the ground ... don't know if it is a heifer or bull, but I am going to name it LIBERTY ...
will have to wait another half hour before going to bed ... have to make sure it gets up and has its first meal.

cutebuns 07-03-2009 11:19 PM

congradulations, I know you were waiting for it to happen. That is great news. I am just sitting here trying to update a few things, company here now, more company supposed to be coming tomorrow. yippee, and I hope to get fabric shopping soon.

I would love to have the info, but I will be on the road next weekend. :(

BellaBoo 07-04-2009 07:37 AM

I am thinking of doing it, it would be a nice change of pace and like being in a class. I'll tell hubby I paid for the class, this way he'll leave me alone not wanting me to waste my money by not sewing. 8)

He is a bull ... our LIBERTY bull ... though, hubby is busily looking for the bands to change that bull issue <g>
Interestingly ... mom calved a bull exactly one year ago on July 5 ...
Ranching has its very satisfying moments, to be sure, and thank you for the congratulations.
He is a big beautiful red calf.

Gonna think about this, but I "hate" getting up early on Sundays !

Maribeth 07-04-2009 09:30 AM

I think the instructions stay up for 24 hours to print, if you are like me and unable to stay caught up. You do need to complete the cutting instructions before the day if you want to try and be done on time. I am still not finished the Jan 1 mystery but I love the finished ones at the site.

I want to try it scrappy, but I still don't quite undertand the "value" concept of fabric. I hold up a few bolts at the LQS and she says, "No, not the same value." Then she puts together a group and I don't understand, they are not the same to me. Some of the fabrics are significantly darker. Oh, and when you bring in multi-colored designs I am completely lost. But it is fun learning :D and if I have the ugliest quilt, so what?

chewboo 07-04-2009 01:08 PM

I would do what you like some how it awlays turns out

Ninnie 07-04-2009 02:48 PM

Does anyone know what time Sunday morning? I could not find a time, might have just missed it!

Angie 07-05-2009 07:50 PM

Ok. Do you all think patriotic fabric would work with this? I have enough large scale "wavy" flag fabric. The light I have a nice white. The darks I have several blues and reds with stars, fireworks etc.? I have been wanting to use for something, but not sure if I should for this mystery quilt? Opinions please................ so I can wash and cut the fabric....... tomorrow!

omak 07-05-2009 08:43 PM

Just running through my head possible patterns and the suggested patriotic fabrics, and think that you will probably be fine. You might want to even pull a couple of gold colors just to pop something, which is probably suggested in your patriotic fabrics also ...
That pulling fat quarters of lights is bothersome to me ... white and I do not get along, and if it is all too light, then I hope whoever receives my quilt will get along better with whites/lights than I do ...
on the other hand, based on Angie's suggestions, I could pull some of my novelties with red family and something else ...
thinking, thinking, thinking, <g>

Angie 07-05-2009 09:05 PM

I do have some gold that would work. Thanks!

Is anyone as excited about the mystery day as I am? I have all the 9" and 2 7/8" squares cut. I still have the rest to do, and of course clean my sewing room so I won't be distracted by anything else that day! This is my first online mystery quilt, but I'm excited and can't wait for Sunday to get here!
I have the large scale print.... it has flowers in assorted colors, birds, butterflies, and greenery (purples, pinks yellows, golds, greens, a little tan and brown on a cream background....... I have light colors pulled in by the birds and flowers, going with dark green fernish for dark (just using one color), and sky blue (not quite solid) for the calm background.

I'm posting pic of my fabrics.............. Do you think these will work for the mystery quilt? I have a couple extra lights so I have a couple of extra choices during the day.

I love your colors, maybe would would like to trade? of course you would have to start cutting all over again, as it is I have to go hunt down somw of what I broght home the other day, sent it to get shrunk and never saw it again, i am hoping to warm up the cutting utensils and get at it today. I was hoping to have it done already, aparently I am really good at procrastinating.

I am excited, I just can't wait.

Cutebuns, would you happen to be a Scorpio? I am and usually quite good a procrastinting! But I usually make the deadline. Let me know what fabrics you choose. It would be fun to know what others are using!

cutebuns 07-10-2009 08:50 AM

Actually I am a pisces, I am a St Patty's day baby to be honest. I am also the middle child, It all plays a part on how we behave.

I am trying to find enough purples to literally do the whole thing in purple.

Angie 07-10-2009 08:59 AM

Cutebuns,

My daughter is a pisces, her bd is 3/18 the day after yours! She is a procrastinator also!

That's LOTS of purples. How close are you? Good luck!

cutebuns 07-10-2009 09:10 AM

I think I have 30 something, I will have to do a final count when I find what I just brought home, I might have to maybe double up on some of the big squares or shift things until I am happy with the balance. I kept with the stuff on sale or I would have had a lot more.

I have a friend that loves purples so it kind of makes sense to do the work for me and have the quilt to give her.

Angie's colors are GREAT! So very happy looking ... that is us Pisces <g> happy procrastinators! (3-15) I think Scarlett O'Hara (one of my life styles) may have been one of us, eh? "I will think about that TOMORROW!"

omak 07-10-2009 10:39 AM

I have an all day sew in at a quilt shop in town for Operation 1161 ... do you think I will be able to find the few pieces I am SURE I may be missing for my cowboy/girl quilt? LOL

cutebuns 07-10-2009 11:04 AM

I hope you can find your missing pieces there. It would be nice for sure to make sure that you have all of it. I can't wait to see.

omak 07-10-2009 11:07 AM

I have learned how to take a phone picture and how to mail it to my email address ... however :? when I transfer the picture to my picture program in order to retrieve it for my avatar or just to share it, it isn't working correctly.
THe picture says it is a jpg. I haven't found a key to changing it to somethig else if that is needed ... went to my profile to try to make something happen, and that didn't happen.
HELP! I REALLY want to show y'all that I can do what I say I can do <g>.

cutebuns 07-10-2009 11:13 AM

All of my pictures are saved under a jpeg. I am not sure what you are doing or not doing to get it to not behave?

Ninnie 07-10-2009 12:51 PM

omak, have you saved them to a file in your documents?
Then when you hit browse , it will let you browse your files and they will be there.

omak 07-10-2009 08:53 PM

Well, that was a very interesting activity. I did save them to the file by right clicking on the attachment in the email. All I see is a box with a file in it. So, then I right clicked on the open picture in the email and could not save anything from that. I just have to keep thinking. ... a huge task! LOL

Ninnie 07-10-2009 09:09 PM

Do you have picasa on your computer ? That's where all my pictures go, then I load them to a file i named " my pictures" on comp and then when I hit browse i go there hit open and right click on the picture and then hit open again and it loads to here . Don't know if that makes sense.

cutebuns 07-10-2009 09:17 PM

try left clicking the mouse insead of right clicking it. That might help.

well, that went well!
Thank you for letting me practice ... that is a picture of my DH and our bull, Lickabull ... papa to our LIBERTY BULL and six other calves on our place (currently) ... however, I notice that you will have to right click on the download to open up the picture ... any suggestions?

this is a quilt I made for gavel passing two or three years ago. started out as some pretty fine panels and then I had to figure out how to design something to go between them to make it queen-sized. This quilt is probably the only quilt I have ever made that I missed after it got raffled off (the reason I made it). It was an interesting reaction.

I downloaded it and opened it in paint, resaved it, the computer didn't recognise what type of file it was, and then reposted it

cutebuns 07-10-2009 09:51 PM

that is some quilt, you did a good job in it and posting it

okay ... so I showed a second one just to see if I could make it do it again. For whatever reason, I upload to here, right click on the download "save as" and viola! a picture shows up in my puter file, and the deed is done!
sometimes, I cna't know how it works, but if it works, then by golly! I will do it <g>

and, it will work!

you never need to know how or why it works, just that it does.
