Playing with a jelly roll...

1 Attachment(s)
Well, I just abandoned a pattern I thought I wanted to do with a jelly roll, and I have laid this out. What do you think? Does this look okay, or is it too bright? I already had the 8 1/2 inch blocks sewn together, each with four strips. I stared at the pattern I thought I wanted for two weeks, but I just couldn't get interested in it. I guess I will leave this up a few days and stare at it. :)

I had the same jelly roll - it made a great Trip Around the World Quilt - I like your rail fence quilt. Very nice.

AudreyB 10-06-2012 07:34 PM

Looks nice. The green really pops. Rail fence is one of my favorite patterns.

Monroe 10-06-2012 08:14 PM

I think it's very nice the way it is.

Quiltaddict 10-06-2012 08:20 PM

I think it turned out great, love the bright green throughout. Another great pattern for using a jelly roll.

love your rail fence

earthwalker 10-06-2012 11:24 PM

I really like it....sometimes you have to quilt it to bring it to life.

busy fingers 10-06-2012 11:32 PM

It looks good from where I am sitting. Go for it.

DOTTYMO 10-06-2012 11:33 PM

It is amazing I love h rail fence. I am surprised at the colours . When I have a jelly roll only have 2 stripes of each pattern/colour and could not make this.
If you donot like it when it is finished will look great in my kitchen

patsynel 10-07-2012 03:19 AM

Looks great, get busy and finish it.

Its very pretty and I agree w/ earthwalker. Quilting it will change the whole perspective.

Don't abandon it, just fly with it, like cut the 8 1/2 " squares at a diagonal and fracture them and resew together . If you are an abstract type of artist , you could get funky with them. Maybe even create something new out of a classic rail fence block. I do this sometimes when I'm not excited about a look.

QuiltnNan 10-07-2012 04:03 AM

i love those colors. the layout works!

gollytwo 10-07-2012 04:28 AM

I really like what you've done; not too bright at all.

luana 10-07-2012 04:36 AM

I think your lay out looks great! I'm inspired! Is that one jelly roll? How big is the top? Thanks

Yes, it is one jelly roll. I have never bought one before, so I don't know if they come in more than one size. I got it at Tuesday Morning, for a pretty good price. I still have 16 pieces left. I haven't sewn these together yet, but right now it is 50x60.

Thanks everyone, for your encouraging words. I had started off to make the 3 dudes jelly roll that Missouri Star Quilt has a video on, and I could still do that, but I think this works better for me. I'm not sure why. I think I have fabric that I will like better in the 3 dudes jelly roll.

Very pretty color combo and I love the longer size rails!

Karen's Kreations 10-07-2012 06:08 AM

I like it and love the colors.

Deborahlees 10-07-2012 08:00 AM

I like it, would be a fun quilt for a teenage girl or possibily a young modern woman....

Sierra 10-07-2012 08:05 AM

Well, the colors go well together, the quilt has a lot of "movement", the fabric is fun.... what is there NOT to like? And for the record, my second son loves that chartruse green and his wife thinks he is very masculine. So, I advise you to make it and NOT show it to my son! But if whoever you give it to doesn't want it, I'll help you out......

oma66 10-07-2012 08:16 AM

I think it is wonderful. Great job.

Raggiemom 10-07-2012 08:45 AM

I like it!

asimplelife 10-07-2012 08:46 AM

I think it is great! Love the colors and I'm always drawn to the movement in a rail fence quilt. I say sew on...

cowgirlquilter 10-07-2012 08:47 AM

Wow I like it a lot!!!!!!

Dina 10-07-2012 09:20 AM

Okay, I am going to quit second guessing myself and sew on. Thanks for all the comments!

Great pattern for these colors and no it is not too bright for me,

Deborahlees 10-07-2012 10:22 AM

Another idea if you are interested, I just ordered the Deal-of-the-day from MSQC and then went to Youtube, to refresh my library of pattern ideas. Jenny does a couple tuts , one is using three strips to a set then cut squares (3 Duds) and the other one is Summer in the Garden, where you make a tube and then cut diamonds....just some additional ideas.

Dolphyngyrl 10-07-2012 05:27 PM

Looks great to me

Jingle 10-07-2012 07:04 PM

Great so far, just finish it up or add more to make it bigger. Your quilt your decision.

Each quilt is a unique piece of art - never too bright or too anything - just unique. I really like this one.
