I have a 18" ironing board and it is better than the skinny one. There is a sleeve attachment for smaller items. Get the larger one. Pants can be ironed on the larger ones.

I just bought a "wooden workbench" from our friends at Harbor Freight. I had been looking at it for some time, it is 22" X 60", has 6 drawers(wide not too deep) and a full length shelf below. It is the right height for me. It is on sale for $159.00, and sometimes for $115.00. I had looked at the larger boards and decided this had more perks, and was cheaper then some of them. My iron no longer falls off the a wobbly board. I can iron a piece of fabric from selvage to selvage with ease.

I also have another ironing board for clothes, so it works for me.

I use my master bedroom as my sewing and limited space after I got a new desk for my 2nd machine. I was in Wal-Mart and found 1 that hangs over a door and it has the wire grid. It made sewing and pressing blocks very easy. The top is a full size ironing board.

I have a suggestion...be sure to get one that has front legs that are split at the bottom. They sit so much better. A lot of the new one just have a bar type wide foot across the bottom and I find they "wiggle" too much. I put rubber caps on all four legs that are really big and sturdy and no wiggles.
