Hi Everyone,

Do you have any ideas for a quilt (or craft) that might make people laugh (or at least smile)?

I've been asked to make a silent auction item for a Humor to Beat the Tumor event put on by the American Brain Tumor Association, but I'm at a loss for ideas.

I've already lost 3 friends to brain tumors and 2 more are currently afflicted ... so I'd like to help raise $.

Thanks in advance for the help I know you'll give me.

Goodness.

That is quite a statistic!

Have you talked to your surviving friends? Sometimes they develop a black sense of humor to cope with their situations.

Maybe a quilt similar to what I made my Mom this mother's day - she is obsessed with the Smiley Face.

I recently bought 2 yards of this, but haven't done anything with it yet. She has 1 yard left. I plan to 'frame' it with half squares in corresponding colors probably in yellow and black, so the theme of the fabric is highly visible and not surrounded by a bunch of messy fabrics to detract from the kitties.

Some Maxine (panel) fabric sewn into quilt blocks would be cute. Or Maxine embroidery designs. Just be careful the sayings are appropriate.

I agree. This was one of the funniest, whimsical patterns I had seen.

linz83 08-16-2011 06:00 PM

I dont know of this ever being done, or how funny or even pretty it would be,
but my husband was telling me the other night he wanted me to make his father and step mother a quilt for there room. .

it would be all the same pattern.. but 3/4 would be in a manly color i.e. blue and 1/4 would be girly ie. pink
like a his and hers but of course "his" is the larger portion.
just a thought :-D

very funny ideas, made me laugh today

noahscats7 08-16-2011 06:37 PM

Did I read correctly that the smileys are a panel or a cut fabric. That is so funny.

I've always thought the 'bed bug' quilt was funny. It has just a bunch of bugs in different blocks

I was thinking that the cartoon called Savage Chickens would make up very cute in a quilt. His chicken designs are very funny and very cute. You might want to ask him first.

Anyone seen the ladies slippers made from Maxi Pads. Hilarious. You can google slippers made from maxi pads.

How about a quilt made out of the "I Love Lucy" chocolate factory fabric. She always made me smile. There was an example of a Candy Jar quilt on here that I thought was really cute and who doesn't like candy? The Chicken and Eggs table runner that some have posted is cute and funny.

That is a cute quilt.

The quilt made from the funny, funky chickens is very hilarious. The Maxine panels are hilarious. There are lots of very funny Christmas embroidery Santas that would make good blocks. A lot of funny get well greeting cards could be made into appliqued blocks. I think good taste wouldn't be as important as good belly laughs.

Here's a Maxine panel that might help.

Oh yeah! I can just see a large over weight gentleman in a vintage convertible driving at warp speed and his toupee flying in the wind. What a quilted statement that would be!!

ptagsold 08-17-2011 05:27 AM

Where did you get the Maxine panel? Thanks ion advance

A quilt using the vegetable ladies would be fun. If you can find the fabric.

How about using MAxcine Fabric for squares.

I love this and it is going to be my next quilt. I try to donate one to our local hospital for their cancer auction. I think this will be the perfect fit. Made me laugh. I might even make one and donate it to the oncology center that just opened.

rslindiana 08-17-2011 01:01 PM

A jesters hat out of fun novelty fabric?

sylviasmom 08-17-2011 01:07 PM

If you crochet, I have a tittie pillow, uses baby bottle nipples.

debby wicke 08-17-2011 01:43 PM

Your funny face quilt is adorable.

jpthequilter 08-17-2011 03:57 PM

Look under swaps and group projects listed here on quilting board for the Funky Dawgs and Funky Farns swaps -for photos of very funny blocks. The swaps are closed now, but if you look at those funny blocks you can perhaps get some ideas !

A friend was given a belt with an attached pen, notepad, and horn when she turned 50 Something about writing down what you are going to get when you leave a room so you don't have to go back to the first room to remember what you went to get.

MadQuilter 08-17-2011 04:41 PM

You could kill Sunbonnet Sue. I find that thought deliciously funny. A few gals just had a swap of the Kill Sue blocks. Amazing how demented some of us are. lol Check out the pics on page 200
