Please tell me I'm not alone

I can't be the only one who does things like this: spends 90 minutes and wastes miles of thread before realizing that the problem isn't the machine tension, it's that the bobbin is threaded wrong. D'oh.

mighty 02-19-2013 08:04 PM

Oh boy you are not alone!!! We all have those days!!!!

Toni C 02-19-2013 08:34 PM

Ah yes a been there done that situation. You are not alone ;)

Sally J 02-19-2013 08:34 PM

Love your black and white babies on your avatar.
No, you are not alone, we have all done something like this.

wanda lou 02-19-2013 09:06 PM

you are not alone!!!

ontheriver 02-19-2013 09:10 PM

You are not alone. Once I was chain piecing and did about 30 pieces before I realized the bobbin had run out, among other things.

cathyvv 02-19-2013 09:49 PM

That, or I threaded the needle incorrectly...arrrggghhhh!

cindypierce 02-19-2013 09:54 PM

are you sure you didn't do that to make me feel better? I spent over an hour fmq ing and making rats nests on the bottom. I am still!!*** unsewing. It was a nice pinwheel block. I feel SO Stupid sometimes. Tommorow Will BE Better.

cindypierce 02-19-2013 09:55 PM

yes it was because the bobbin was threaded WRONG. sigh.

narnianquilter 02-19-2013 10:40 PM

If it makes you feel better after reading this I was like "You can thread a bobbin wrong?" I then googled it and went "Ohhh...that's why my machine does that..."

Knitette 02-19-2013 11:45 PM

Once spent an interesting  afternoon swearing at my machine and cursing like a sailor (no offence to sailors...) because I couldn't get the tension right. Just before I threw the machine and probably myself to follow, through the window, I discovered the bobbin in back to front. Oh how we live and learn!

FubsyMog 02-20-2013 01:38 AM

Glad I'm not the only one who does things like this! I think sometimes we concentrate so hard on the 'difficult' bits that the 'easy' things get forgotten!

Sarah in Brooklyn 02-20-2013 04:05 AM

I feel so much better now!

Oh My, you made me LOL! I think we have all done that, at one time or another.

sahm4605 02-20-2013 04:58 AM

i love sitting for an hour and then only realize that the machine wasnt threaded correctly. but only after ruini g the fabric i was working on. ahhhh the joys of not paying supper close attention.

reneaunoel 02-20-2013 05:12 AM

Took me almost a year to realize my bobbin case was MISSING the tension screw. no idea if it was missing when I bought the machine, but took the repair guy about 3 seconds to install a new one. I've been good to go since! And sewing a beautiful curve together, with no thread in bobbin, been there, done that!

Good time to laugh, take a break and enjoy!

soccertxi 02-20-2013 06:17 AM

These problems used to make me CRY! Now I consider it a class in troubleshooting my machine. Next time, I say (like I'm a sewing machine tech or something) I know what is wrong and how to fix it!

OMG, I do this ALL the time. I sew with the tv on, using my Singer 301A, so there is no way to tell when the bobin is going to run out. I have to constantly remind myself to check the pieces coming out the other side to make sure that I am actually sewing them together. Sometimes when I've been sewing nothing together for longer than I would like, I take a break and open a bottle of wine. That seems to make it better!

Vicki I 02-20-2013 12:39 PM

Nope or the top thread was wrong. Very frustrating and always feel like an idiot

linda faye 02-20-2013 03:06 PM

Oh, you are so not alone! Last week I discovered that I had not been threading the machine correctly to wind the bobbin. I have only had the machine for 10 years! Granted it does wind the bobbin tighter and sews like a dream now.
I will also confess that I broke down and cried last week because I could not get the darn 1/4" seam just right. I bought a 1/4" pressure foot and would you believe it is w o n d e r f u l !! Also treated myself to a rotating cutting mat, a small rotary cutter for convenience, and a brand new ergonomic seam ripper. I feel better now :)

faykilgore 02-20-2013 03:13 PM

The reason the book stays with my sewing machine has nothing to do with organization. I consult it periodically to make sure I'm threading the bobbin correctly, because I don't always.

gabeway 02-20-2013 04:01 PM

Been there, done that!

ube quilting 02-20-2013 04:36 PM

You want to know if every body else does stuff like this! I think, yes!
peace

giquilt 02-20-2013 04:42 PM

No not alone. I have been told if you re-thread your needle also re-thread your bobbin. Do I do this? NOT

Annaquilts 02-20-2013 05:02 PM

Nope you are not the only one. I am taking a break before I fix my mess.

QM 02-20-2013 05:04 PM

Certainly, we al have those days. We are, after all, human

Okay, I give! How do you thread a bobbin wrong?

Sarah in Brooklyn 02-20-2013 05:54 PM

It's hard to explain - the thread wasn't in the right little grooves. It takes talent to mess that up!!

I spent an hour & a half trying to get my serger threaded right, the thread just kept breaking, until I realized one of the needles had slipped down about a quarter of an inch, the screw had worked its way loose. Got that problem fixed and no more problems.

I never use profanity except in the sewing room!!!

Krystyna 02-21-2013 04:50 AM

I've sewn for miles before realizing I had no bobbin thread!

AlienQuilter 02-21-2013 05:49 AM

I have a drop in bobbin on my Babylock. Kept having problems with the stitching. Auto tension! I kept yelling at it that it had auto tension! I finally decided to rethread the whole machine and decided to do a through cleaning in the bobbin area. Took the bobbin case completely out and discover a wad of fuzz under the bobbin case. Problem solved. So now I not only do a compete rethreading, I also do a cleaning.

Oh, a fantastic tip on Fons and Porter the other day. Pipe cleaners to clean the bobbin area and under the feed dogs. DH found a large package for me the other day at Joann's for 99 cents. That should last me a while!.

Weezy Rider 02-21-2013 07:10 AM

I've had birds' nests on the bottom of embroidery - redid the bobbin quite a few times before I realized the thread was out of the takeup lever. You can't see the whole thread path on the machine. I've had machines do that before, and finally put a piece of tape over the opening in the takeup lever. That meant you had an "eye" there, not as convenient to thread, but the thread stayed put.

solstice3 02-21-2013 07:30 AM

You are not alone!!

Caswews 02-21-2013 07:57 AM

Ahhh Grasshopper: you have truly become part of the club now .. LOL

We have all done that at one time or another; sigh .. we all feel so darned silly; but then we re-thread and get over it. Tell our friends and they laugh with us !! LOL

richardswife 02-21-2013 10:48 AM

I don't recall doing that, BUT, I have done....more times than I want to admit to......sewed about a mile down the road before I noticed that the bobbin had run out. You'd think I could learn a lesson sometime.:(

JoanneS 02-21-2013 11:52 AM

If there's a way to make a mistake, I've found a way to do it!

Sheepshed 02-21-2013 12:56 PM

OK.... You arent the only one... hee hee ;)

MargeD 02-21-2013 12:59 PM

You're definitely not alone, and to take it one step further, I've been sewing right along before discovering that I ran out of bobbin thread several feet ago. Yup, been there, done that and more than a time or two.
