Craftybear, I think there are 2 retreats also held in this area besides the one in Lafayette. One is usually held in the spring and the other in the fall. Nancy J's usually has information on it because Nancy sometimes sponsors one or both. Heaven on Earth has information, I think, on some others. I would like to go but I get hesitant and don't get my stuff together enough to know when to sign up. I chicken out usually because I'm really stupid.:) Once I get to know people, I'm pretty good, but for some reason I panic at the thought of going somewhere by myself. I'm not shy when I get some where, it's just getting there. Haven't figured that one out yet except for the accident I had and my reaction to everything since it. Oh well I'm still loving the quilting and now swapping messages about it. LOL Bethy

hubby and I are renovating a down town bldg in West Union, IA (NE) into a longarm quilting studio and retreat center---will COMFORTABLY seat 24 for quilting and sleep 16 twin/2 queen in 5 seperate sleeping rooms- 3 bathrooms- all upstairs. The sewing area is one the main level and has a complete kitchen w/seperate dining area to bring food in or restaraunts w/in walking distance. EXCELLENT lighting, ironing boards and cutting tables. Did I miss anything- let me know. I plan to open April 2010- can't wait to decorate the place- so far I'm admiring how nice the plumbing pipes are and the studs for the walls! Happy quilting.

Oh, my gosh. I love retreats and bet over the years I've gone to about 30 of them from Vermont to Florida. They are so much fun....some had definate projects by the teachers, but you could do your own thing but it was wonderful meeting up with some old friends and meeting the new. Wish I could go to one now but circumstances stop that along with distance. Everyone should go to at least one....you get hooked.

They have dorm type cabins we sleep in and the big eating hall is where we set up our machines on the perimeter of the room. We have eating tables in the middle and that way we don't have to move anything. The food is cafeteria style and it is always good. We don't have to do anything but sew eat and sleep. Of course sleeping is optional. Lots of fun. Is northeast Iowa central? Approx 90 miles NE of Cedar Rapids/ Iowa City.

I am in the Center of Missouri so Iowa sounds good to me.

How about a few central/specific retreats? Midwest is just too far for me (all the way in Washington), but I'd be willing to do one in Oregon or even California, maybe. I we did a few, at various times, that we were all invited to (of course), but spread them out all over the country, wouldn't that be easier? Then anyone can attend, but it'll be closer for some, and we'll all have more chances to meet!
