Seems like you never have enough when company come to eat. I have about 7 and I run out sometimes with everyone bringing a baking dish filled with something. Makes for a wonderful dinner though. I have a heart shaped pot holder that folds over when your hand is in it. My problem was it wasn't big enough. It only held about half the length of my fingers. If you make then try it out with some cheap scraps first to make sure you can get the full length of your fingers in it. Just my own opinion . You can also make them in a kind of oval shape with the ends curved and the sides straight. I've seen this shape made into animal faces by adding a nose and eyes and ears for a cat or dog or pig. etc.

ha! ... Works for me ... as double duty,
for I have been known to just grab the tea towel to take things out of the oven!!!:D

I mainly use oven mitts and put my hands in them. Not interested in burning my arm or backs of my hands. I use two mitts.

I prefer pot holders. I don't feel like I can grip the pot as well with the mitts because they don't bend and fit my hands right. I, too, throw them to the back of the drawer or mostly use them like a huge potholder if I can't find a potholder when I need it.

Edited to Add: My favorite potholders are about 6 inches square. The smaller 4 inch ones just caused me to get my hands burned if I wasn't really careful. I, also, use them to sit hot pots on.

I use mitts to keep my hands safe. But have you ever noticed that on every cooking show they use dish towels for taking things out of the oven? Do they not like mitts or pot holders? I can’t see dish towels keeping their hands from burning. Is it a professional thing?

Last year i made potholders for gifts to friends using my much-coveted purple Christmas fabric. I made them in sets of two with matching tags made with Steam-A-Seam 2 and floral motifs cut from the main fabric. I didnt make them for everybody - just the friends i knew who liked to cook... boy did i hear about it afterwards (how come you didnt make some for me!). This year i will start earlier so that i can make enough for everybody!
