Amethyst, I made the same pot holders (grabbers) and love them much better than regular pot holders. I also used batting, insul bright and than another layer of batting. I layerered everything that I cut into rectangles and than traced my oval shape on the top. Surged around the oval shape (which cut my shape perfect) and that was much easier than cutting all pieces and then layering. I gave them as Christmas gifts with microwave potato bags that I also made. Everyone loved them.

Check out my tutorial. You can use scraps and they go together quickly. I don't like using pot holders without Insulbrite, but I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to heat.

Thank you for asking this question as I had the same problem with flexibility in my potholders.

I made the microwave potholders for bowls for Christmas presents. Used the 100% cotton batting made for the microwave potato bags from Joann's. The instructions are for two layers. Have been using the potholders ALOT! No more burned fingers.

I've made lots of pot holders and a layer of insulbrite and a layer of cotton seems to work for me. But I have a counter close to the stove to put my bakeware down. If you plan on carrying them longer, you may want another layer of batting.

I recycle old jeans and use the jeans piece sandwiched between two cotton batting pieces. Don't use polyester as that will melt when hot.

I thought of using this with insulbrite for pot holders but always forget to get it when I'm at Joanns http://www.joann.com/warm-tater-45in.../10706869.html

Thanks travelinggramma for this suggestion! I see that this product is currently in stock at the JoAnn's nearest me. Next week, after we dig out from the snow, I'll go get some.

I use two pieces of W&N with one piece of insulbrite in between. Works for me

I use 4 layers of batting. I used to use insulbrite but I had so many batting scraps I needed to use up. I learned about the poly batting the hard way. Duh.
