:D What kind of batting or lining do I need to make pot holders?

MelissaK 10-09-2009 07:33 AM

I use Insul-Bright and cotton batting. sometimes I'll use old towels or washcloths/dishcloths too.

My mom made some with old quilted pieces that had the polyester fiberfill.

NOT the best idea.

Someone told me they use double layer of heavy duty aluminium foil in between two pieces of thin batting. I haven't tried it.

How would that wash ?

I would sew the foil into the seam so I guess it would hold up layered in batting. I may make up a sample and see what happens.

I have used a couple of layers of reflective, metallic type replacement Ironing Board covers before now, with cotton batting next to the fabric.

I agree. Towels.. the batting intensifies the heat.. burns ( ! )

Towels always work great ! Because of the terry cloth, I use a fabric backer and front cover.

Still have my log cabin pot holders from 1982 !

Good luck !

I've heard of people using old sweaters they've picked up at Good Will or thrift shops....shrink in dryer first!
