Potato Chip Variation? Am I losing it???

OK, I seem to remember a pattern (maybe on here) where you do the Potato Chip Block (8 1/2" square inside a 2 1/2" "frame") which was then cut in half top to bottom and side to side. Then reassembled into a block producing some nice geometric movement. BUT I can't find any pictures or discussion. I am not an original piecer so somebody help me get on track and point me in the right direction. I KNOW I did not come up with this out of thin air or my own brain!

Though may I could get you a answer but it didn't work. Tried to do a search for "potato chip block" and got nothing. Maybe someone else can tell us what or where to search.

Try searching "potato chip quilt block" - got lots of hits with that as well as a lot of images, patterns for sale, and maybe some tutorials. Cute quilts!

Would this be the disappearing 9 patch block?

That may be the way to go, I searched some and didn't see anything.
And you can take photos as you play so you can post the tutorial ....

I tried the google search/QB search as well and I did get the PChip block but not the additional step of chopping into 4 equal parts and reassembling. I wanted to get a look at some pictures of this so I could choose my fabrics for maximum effect before just diving in. As I recall, some color choices turned into a squarish figure eights on the diagonal when finished. Just wanted to look before I dived into this.

Thanks for the advice so far!

It's very confusing, several different quilts are being called potato chip quilts, but I think this is the one you're searching for - no directions of course but I think you have the right idea about how to make it - http://quiltinjeanie.blogspot.com/20...ip-quilts.html

Split One has a square that you make a frame around, but you cut it on the diagonal. The finished quilt does have movement.

Yes! This is where I was headed; however my recollection is only one "frame" which gave a less fractured and more continuous movement in the finished top. I am also looking for a speedy finish (Project Linus) with only one frame. I have been cutting squares and strips all afternoon. We'll see what happens.
