A 5 lb. hand weight. It’s $4.99 at Walmart or maybe you have one at home. Put it on the the end of the ruler farthest from your hand. One end on the ruler, one end on the table. Watch almost any videos Jordan from Jordan Fabrics and you’ll see a demonstration. It really works.

I took the plunge and bought a Quilter's Select Ruler. It doesn't slip. It has a very fine sand finish on the back side to prevent slippage. They are a bit pricey but I am finding it to be worth the money. I could only afford one so I bought the 24"x6" ruler. I just go tired of adding tapes or dots and other things to the ruler. So far in the time I have had this ruler I have had no problem at all.

I've tried a lot of different non-slip things, and HandiGrip works the absolute best.

Yes, I've noticed that Donna from Jordan Fabrics always uses a weight to stabilize the far end of her ruler as she cuts long strips. I've recently decided the next time I need to do this, I'll try one of my very heavy vintage sad irons!

I use Odif Grippy for my machine quilting rulers. It's great for any ruler. No tape or add on stickers needed. Quilter Select rulers are the best for fabric cutting.

I took little squares of that rug-grip stuff and used double stick tape to stick it to my rulers. It works well.

This is great. I use it too, learned from her videos. I get the best results with it. I have dots, tape, etc. on some rulers, but, they still slip, I guess because I don't hold them securely enough, but the weight does it for me.

I use a Quilters Slidelock for any long ruler. I won't cut a strip without that. It's a safety device but the ruler isn't slipping or budging anywhere.

I use gridlines and curity medical tape.
