Just realize you cannot print on fabric with a laser jet printer, only with an ink jet. My HP prints fabric just fine, in fact have had HPs for years and never had a problem with any of them. Good luck in your search.

Sure am going to watch the replies to your question as I am planning a memory quilt in memory of my Dad. I have been collecting the fabrics, all music themed as he was a musician. Just bought the printing fabric sheets last week but I was really thinking of buying a new printer before I start this project. I just am not sure what to buy. I had seen on a video about printing on fabrics at the website (thequiltshow.com), I think. They said to use a printer that uses pigment ink. Epson printers use the durabright ink that is pigment ink. I have been looking at the Epson printers on line but have not made a decision yet. I will wait and see what the advice is on this topic. Sorry I was not any help... The videos at that website are very informative about printing on fabric. I am new to this so need some direction. Good luck on your project.

I print on fabric all the time. I have a HP Photosmart C4240 and love it! Sorry about your Dad, I made a memory quilt for my Mom when my Dad passed away, it took me awhile to get started on it but then it was such a comfort. I highly recommend HP!

What do you use to print on? Do you use the fabric sheets that are already treated or do you the bubblejet stuff? Just want to be sure I am going to be using a method that will stand up to washing, etc. I appreciate your advice.

I've printed on fabric for YEARS. I just iron freezer paper on muslin, cut to size and send it through. I use a ink jet from H.P. Haven't had problems. I'm not making family heirlooms here, I'm just doing fun projects.

In our business we use only Epson as a proof machine because it gives the true color. We proof everything before we run it on our 64" wide format printer. The machine is very inexpensive around $45.00 but the ink is $14.-18. per cassette. Lasts a good length of time. I just iron my white, whatever on freezer paper and send it thru. I have done a Baptizmal Quilt on ivory with pictures of the baby's Mom & Dads wedding, Mom pregnant, pictures from the delivery roomand the final open square was the baby being baptized. I hand sewed it and quilted so it did'nt look out of place. It's been washed 4-5 times, Looks great!

Your best bets are either an HP or Epson printer. Both have equally good quality of ink and thruput (feed quality) with fabric in the machine.

I have only used the packaged fabric sheets but I am going to try the freezer paper on reg fabric, I think I need that bubble jet stuff tho so will have to wait on it for now. Also when you quilt its a little tricky on large photos, for me anyway. Even the smallest needle leaves holes if you mess up and have to rip stitches out. I tried not quilting them and they get puffy, even with SID. I'm still experimenting on that part...

I bought the bubble jet set but haven't used it yet. I plan to do my own fabric with freezer paper too. :D
