progress on cat blocks with black background...and a question

1 Attachment(s)
I posted about a week ago, very concerned about my ability to work with black fabric as a background. I got lots of good suggestions from quilters, and I thank you all a lot!

I currently have 36 cat blocks done, and I am about to bravely add black sashing. But, before I do that, how does this arrangement look? You will have to visualize the black sashing, but it will end up being one inch wide.

The colors are much brighter than they appear in the picture. But, do you see anything you would move?

Thanks for any opinions.

Dina

I like it! I think the colors are appropriately placed...wouldn't move a thing.

Oh I love it!! I've never seen that pattern until you showed it last post. It's precious!!! Good job!

Very nice - love all the colors.

bearisgray 08-13-2017 01:07 PM

I think I would like it with white sashing - even though the white is just "spacing" right now.

Is that pattern by Janet Kime? I think I have a book with a similar pattern. Is it difficult to do?

Would change a thing. Very cute blocks.

nativetexan 08-13-2017 01:52 PM

I think they are looking great. Love the sashing idea.

I think it looks perfect and well balanced, great job, I can't wait to see it all finished !

I think they look great. Don't change anything. I'm so glad you kept going. It is going to be terrific.

Oh, that's come along nicely! The only thing I would change would be the bottom row the dark purple cat on the left edge. I'd switch it with the pink one next to it. The dark one might not give enough delineation to the edge of the quilt, making the eye focus on that area. But what do I know? It would work either way. It's impressive that youhung with this, even though it had it's difficult parts. Nice!

The black sashing will finish it perfectly. Great job.

Looks so cute!! Love it the way it is set up now. Will love to see it once the black sashing is in!

Absolutely adorable. Great job.

Yes, it is by Janet Kime, in her book The Cat's Meow. To be honest, I found it challenging. The ears kept defeating me, plus I have a lot of trouble sewing black on black. The instruction to cut 578 1 1/2 inch squares of background fabric should have given me a clue that it might be challenging. I was looking for something different that a Bargello, which I am really currently stuck on, and this was certainly different.

Thanks, switching the pink and purple in that bottom row makes sense. I will do that.

It's so darn cute. Love it just the way it is.

Wow, I love it. I'll have to look for that book. I have a relative who is dating a cat lover and should their relationship progress, that would be purrrr-fect. Sorry, couldn't resist.

too cute!!!

linda8450 08-15-2017 07:07 AM

I love it! If you are looking for switching for a more pleasing effect, I notice that most of the "single" cats are placed with tails touching, but quite a few are not. I like them touching! Is there a way to rearrange so more are back to back tails? I agree that the lower left corner i going to disappear into the sashing, moving that one makes sense. Overall beauty!

Really like your quilt and the layout

ruby2shoes 08-15-2017 12:12 PM

Love the cats, gorgeous. Um, if the sashing is going to be black, how will it differentiate the blocks as they have the black background?

The cats will look like they are floating. I tried to attach a link so you could see the design from the pattern, but I couldn't get it copied correctly. It is a pattern called Jazz Cats from a book called Cat's Meow by Janet Kime. If you google that book title, the quilt on the cover is this pattern with a black background. It is probably a quilt for cat lovers only. :)

Oh, it's coming together so cute. I would keep it just as it is & can't wait to see the finished piece.

lynnie 08-15-2017 06:56 PM

to me, it's purrrfect. don't change a thing.

Pretty quilt, and I love those cat blocks with the twisty tails.
