That Purple Cushion
 

Do many people use that funny inflated purple cushion? Now that I'm quilting more, I'm getting some discomfort in my ...ahem, upper thigh backs. I hate to spend that much on a thing like that, but if it will be better than the various cushions I've been using, maybe I should.

I've seen them marketed as high as $25-$30 in quilt stores, and as low as $12 in the fitness section of stores like Target and Walmart. The exact same product. My advice is to shop around! :)

I drooled over the Gypsy Balance Cushion for a long time but just couldn't justify the cost. I found something very similiar at either Walmart or Meijer. It is made by Danskin and it works just as well. It is a balance disk and it helps strengthen your core muscles. My sides and abs were sore for the first week that I used it but I have no problems now. It is sold in the exercise equipment area. The best part is it cost about $13-14!!!

I hate mine...it's so uncomfortable. I bought in hopes it would help me and it just makes my butt numb!

I bought an DynaDisc by Exertools many years ago and use it for when am sewing not at my home. This was originally for physical therapy and balance but once I saw it I knew it would be great for classes, sew-ins, etc. What is pictured is similar.

I have a Swooper that I use at home for sewing. It is height adjustable and more; looks like a giant mushroom; is like sitting on a balance ball so my posture remains what it should be.

Actually, Donut cushions are very bad for you! We stopped using them many years ago in the nursing home I worked at because studies proved that the cushion actually causes more pressure due to gravity. We had used these for patients with bed sores on their bottoms and hemorrhoids.

I would recommend trying out the Gypsy cushion (or whatever one you're considering) before purchasing it. My LQS had them at sewing classes and you could use it for the class to see if you wanted to buy it. I used it for a little bit but I was up and down so much I couldn't really tell if it helped me or not.
