QAYG no sashing
Newest adventure for me will be to learn to quilt as I go but without sashing. (Most of the quilts I make do not have sashing.) I've watched a couple videos but wondering if there are tips out there that you experienced QAYG quilters can share.

Use glue basting technique. It is wonderful for QAYG quilts. I do it all the time.

I prefer the sashing, so I am not help.

I make them with sashing. I can use sashing of the same color of the block to blend in or of a contrast color, but always with sashing.
I have not tried to make them without sashing because I hate to stitch in the ditch. |
I have tried the method of QAYG with no sashing using the tutorial listed below!

I do QAYG using a method from a Nancy Zieman book (Sewing Shortcuts? - I donated the book a few years ago). I've done everything from lap quilts to large queen size quilts. All by machine since (A) my hand quilting is atrocious and (B) by the time I get to quilting I just want the darn thing done. I love piecing but not really a fan of anything else. So this method of QAYG breaks up the process for me. As a bonus, by the time you are done assembling and quilting, all that's left to do is the binding!
And the video posted by copycat (above) seems to be much the same way. https://www.candiedfabrics.com/2014/...go-no-sashing/ |
i quilt all my work in the QAYG method. no sashes. i just pin, a lot, and then hand sew it all. i've done lap quilts to my biggest, 120 x 125. when it's done you can't see the seams. good luck.
