Yes you can I used the 5in block also, it is the same as the 3D Bow Tie Block. I also used 3.5, 4, 8 and 10 inch blocks.

I first match up the seem in the middle and go from thee. It's not hard at all. So far I have 14 blocks completed. I'd have more if you all would stop writing!!! Ha! If I can I'll post a few.

5 blocks - all the same size - any size will make up nicely.
The first couple that I made, I had to pin because I sewed them wrong but soon got the sense of them. Now I am going to make some Christmas blocks! Kathy A G, Thanks for the photos. The blocks are great. |
Thank You Quilter68, I sure appreciate that!

I used my 5 inch charms but would recommend 8 to 10 inch squares. just easier.

Oh wow! I like that, now how did you get the half triangle? I'm sure I can figure it out but don't want to sound stupid if I ask wrong! HA!

i did the half triangles (flying geese) by taking the inserted rectangle and grabbing both pieces/sides and pulling it over to one side and stitching, rather than pulling it open by grabbing both sides. since i was using 5 inch ones, it was difficult to grab both sides and get them up into the seam without almost getting a pucker. so decided to grab the whole thing and pull to one side only.

I saw this tute and tried one block. After I figured out how to lay my fabric.... simple and fun to make... and she did say you can make ANY size block... just make sure all five blocks are the same size. I am trying to decide which colors to use out of my stash. This is such an easy block to make. I went to You Tube and typed in 10 minute blocks. It took right to the tute. Good luck.

It looks like the blocks above started with the first block layed inside out instead of outside fabric out... go to the tute. I made that mistake when I sewed the first stitch on this block. This is such an easy three stitching block.
