Question about Glowing Pineapple QAYG Quilt

This is a pattern by Sylvia Q Davis.

The pieces are sewn onto the batting on top of the backing.

It looks like the most frustrating part of this will be marking an x and a cross onto the batting squares to help line up the pieces.

If I align the center square and position each new square carefully is it really necessary to draw these marks on the batting?

Seems unnecessary to me. It will probably just annoy me and suck up all the ink. :)

Here is a link so you'll know what I'm talking about:

It looks kind of quick and fun.

Thanks for looking.

Oops nevermind. Of course I have to do that. But it's better with a pencil.

Ive used this method to do a cushion. Enjoyed doing it but disliked the fact that you lose all the points.

This could be epic quilting fail. I drew the little lines on the batting but still getting distortion. I allowed extra batting and backing because I saw it coming. Will try and be more careful.

Yep! Epic quilting fail!

Lord have mercy, I started the first square straight across instead of on point. 😄

Now I have to unpick sixteen of these things.

Good grief.

See you next week. Lol!

If the fabric is not light color or thin, I think you could use regular ink pen (which may mark easier than the disappearing blue one). I used that on a QAYG (not same one).

Thanks for the link. I have a UFO to finish.

What a neat idea! Thanks for the link and good luck with yours.

I would think a walking foot would help. Otherwise the layers will shift and move. Looks interesting. I may try it.

Blecch!

I drew the lines, used a walking foot and all of it and I hate it!

I made sixteen squares.

I'm joining them with strips to give to the cat! 😄
