Sorry, I should have included that with first post.
I find it takes two hands to open and I have to give too much of a tug which seems to be weakening the fabric in that area. The area does not 'stand' up when closed, but seeems to fold down on itself. I am not sure if using a more firm batting/interfacing would help, but I will be using a tab from now on. Just seems stronger.

I've put in many magnetic snaps in purses. I always put a square of iron on interfacing over the area where the snap goes and then cut a piece of plastic (from a milk jug or like) and put the prongs through the plastic before putting on the metal washer that comes with the snap. I've never had a problem with fabric tearing. If the top sags it may be because the snap is too far down.

Thank you, all. I used the black ones that Dritz makes that are made of rubber that you sew on. I found the right place to put it and I really love it !
