Question about quilts with fleece backing.

Just wondering...for those of you who have made a quilt with fleece as the backing (without batting in the middle). Do you use the "birthing" method for those quilts, or do you quilt the usual way and then bind the edges?

If anyone has pictures I'd love to see them! Would like to finish up a little quilt I made (using the jelly roll race method) for my aunt, who's in a wheelchair. I'm thinking the fleece backing and lack of bulk from not using the batting would be idea for her.

I don't have a photo, but I've used just fleece a couple times and finished them with a regular binding. I can never get my birthed quilts to lay flat.

I have made them with both methods and they work equally well. If you are putting a binding on it helps to make the binding a little wider. Don't have one right now to show you, sorry.

I finished one this week using cotton fabric like a panel, and fleece backing. I usually do "self binding" with the fleece, as long as the color goes well with the top. Turn the backing over one inch(to the front) and zig zag. Works fine for me.

I should mention it is important to have a nice neatly cut edge if you are doing this. I do not turn under the fleece edge.

I make mine so that the fleece will come around to the front and I machine stitch it down. No binding needed then.

Here's one of several kiddie quilts I did with a fleece backing and regular binding. The fleece is actually one of those inexpensive throws.

Thanks! I forgot all about turning the fleece binding to the outside... I think I have enough of a piece of fleece to do that, and I know it's pretty easy because I've done it before on a regular quilt.

I always put a binding on mine. I Have never been happy with how my "birthing" method turns out.

I made a flannel quilt, used a flat batting, and fleece on back. It was quilted by a friend on her long arm and is beautiful! I used binding method and finished it by machine.

I googled a birthing method and found one at Red Pepper quilts. not sure I would want to do the birthing method. I have never been very good about turning things inside out.
