Whether it's shelves, drawers, or bins keep your fabric out of the sun. I have caninets so I can close the doors, but that's my preferance.

Excuse my rudeness, but I don't tell my BF how to arrange the garage, and he knows better than to tell me how to arrange my sewing room. I do consider 99% of his suggestions; and I value his opinion, but...........this is my space. Leave me and my mess alone. We will deal with this wreck as soon as you allow me into the garage. 'nuff said. Said only with a smile. :-)

here is a good tutorial about using boards. Mine were only 7 x 10 1/2, could not find them any bigger but they work fine. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-43871-1.htm

I'm not a fan of drawers - out of sight - out of mind. I am definitely not as organized as luvTooQuilt (guess I'm missing the organizational gene) but I like the see through plastic tubs - separated into groups - by color, Christmas, fall, seasonal, backings, etc. and it works pretty well. At least I can see pretty much what is in each tub and I try to write on a 4 X 6 note card what is in the tub. It was the only way I could get my fabric organized when we downsized from a three-bedroom house to a two-bedroom apt., and I do mean downsized. Hubby hates the bins in the dining room, but they are against one wall and we rarely use the dining room table except for my computer and when I need to cut things out that are too big for my cutting mat in the bedroom/sewing room. One time he actually said it wasn't too bad because of all the colorful fabric. Guess he must have been in a very good mood. Good luck with your sewing room, I'm jealous.

Here's a picture of my folded fabrics as promised

My neighbor stores hers in filing cabinets and the plastic totes, she buys the metal rods for the plastic totes and then hangs the hanging files and drapes her fabrics over those, you can always see the fabrics and it is nice and organized.

You ladies who fold your fabric on shelves which is what I do also - question--How do you neatly remove a piece. I mess mine stack up every time I have to pull one from the bottom.
