I still have the very first quilt I ever made - it was tied with acrylic yarn about 35 -37 years ago. The yarn has held up a lot better than much of the cotton that it tied through - I've had to do a lot of repairs over the years

using regular type yarn will be a pain! you have to use a bigger needle and it makes a bigger hole in the quilt! go for pearl cotton or crochet thread!

I used yarn once and it was super hard to pull it through the fabric and batting. I had to use pliers! I switched to perle cotton after that.

Embroidery thread won. I didn't have any crochet thread. I'll try it next time. Yes, yarn was almost impossible to pull through. I gave up on it very quickly. Thank you for all the help and suggestions.

I'm a weirdo! I like to tie with really narrow satin ribbon. And maybe even tie a bow.

I use embroidery thread, split in 1/2 or 3 of the 6 threads. I have made many I like it, many colors. Washes well.

[QUOTE=geeblay627e120;6447732]I am making a t-shirt quilt for my husband for Christmas. I have the top finished and have it sandwiched. I'm ready to start tying.

Is there a reason I should use embroidery thread and not yarn? Or is it a personal choice. I really like the look of yarn. But seems eveything I read indicates using embroidery thread.

I use craft thread. Heavier than embroidery thread and lighter than crochet thread, and lots of colors

Pearl Cotton for me too. Looks great after many washings

Please advise.

I prefer floss or perle cotton. IMO, yarn looks nasty after a couple washings.
