Sewing forever but quilting for the last 4 years. Didn't start earlier because I always thought it was for old ladies. How wrong I was! I am 67 now and wish I would have started quilting 40 years ago because it is so much fun.

36, but I've been quilting off and on for 5 years. :D

[quote=SewMomma66]Hello All, my husband is being a butthead. Probably because his sugar is out of whack. He is giving me grief about quilters being old ladies. So I thought where better to take a pole and figure out the average age of quilters these days.

I promise not to share your age (he, he) but with the few thousand on our board.

I am 44.

You are?[47 will be 48 in June.Tell him age does not matter it sure beats the alternative. by checking out of this world.]

I will be 70 next week, but I did't know I was old. Here in Florida, I still look like the kid on the block.

Gotta love it! I may not be a marathon runner like Sherry, but I cross country ski in winter and love to kayak and swim in the summer. I do Dance Aerobix 3X/week. Energy-wise, I can run circles around most of the younger women in my quilt guild and, in fact, one of them recently referred to me as being a "Ball of Fire". Now ... tell me that I am old at 61!!!

When I was ill last summer and had to stay at home during the spring and summer, and inside I began sewing pillow cases of many colors for birthday gifts. Then added crocheted, color coordinated edges. As there was material left over, well, I watched Quilting videos on YouTube and practiced making quilts. So I was 73 when I began quilting, finally was eager to take beginner classes in December, practiced my learning on 3 quilts in January and I am off to the races. My diet is restricted, my walking not that great but quilting manages to direct my mind to happiness. Quilting has restored youth to a 74 year old, my enthusiasm, and delight in the work of my hands....that is a blessing, isn't it! It seems I really am a lifetime learner. At age 54 I graduated in Graphic Design and got a JOB! Loved it. At 65 I took many knitting classes with great enthusiasm....still knitting. PS In my quilting classes there was a new to quilting 80 yr old that I admired for investing in herself.
