Hello All, my husband is being a butthead. Probably because his sugar is out of whack. He is giving me grief about quilters being old ladies. So I thought where better to take a pole and figure out the average age of quilters these days.

I promise not to share your age (he, he) but with the few thousand on our board.

I am 44.

You are?

JulieR 04-27-2011 05:41 PM

39! My sugar is also out of whack today so if you need me to come over there and give him the what for, it's a good day. :D

tellabella 04-27-2011 05:46 PM

53...there is another thread about this and someone actually took all the numbers and did an average.....tell your husband that quilters come in all ages, as well as sizes, shapes, colours and sex...I have several students, around 14-17 who have fallen in love with quilting..both boys and girls by the way..

Sew, tell your DH that my son made his 1st quilt when he was 9 years old!! I also taught my great niece to quilt when she was 11..I will be 62 in a month..so guess I am an OLD lady-ish...my oldest daughter is 38 and she has been quilting for close to 20 years..so she was young when she started..I wish I had learned to quilt when I was 10!! I also crochet and I have a wood working shop..I make all kinds of wood craft!! crafty_linda_b

Oh girls, I am going to be Seventy in two days. I love this board and what I do. We all have to get old sometime but I feel young and that is what counts. So there!!!!

mom-6 04-27-2011 05:54 PM

And tell your DH that 'OLD' doesn't start till you're 80!
'REALLY OLD' starts at 90...

I made my first quilt when I was 20-21 yr.s old, I am now 65 and a couple of hundred of quilts and comforters later. Tell him to watch his mouth or us "Old Ladies" may come and pay him a visit.

63 here, so far it looks like we are anywhere from 24 to 70 so that covers close to 3 generations!!

KwiltyKahy 04-27-2011 06:00 PM

Kuusistoquilter 04-27-2011 06:00 PM

watson's mom 04-27-2011 06:01 PM

63 but my son gave me a plaque that says if you haven't grown up by 60 you don't have to. Guess that makes me a kid.

M.I.Late 04-27-2011 06:01 PM

My body thinks I'm 80 and my mind thinks I'm 30 but the calendar says I'm 56. For now, my mind still wins...

happynana 04-27-2011 06:01 PM

almost 57

Jan in VA 04-27-2011 06:02 PM

Well, I'm 66 which will likely skew your results toward the "oldies". But I was 37 when I started, with a passion, so take that one instead!

I am 55 but have been quilting since I was in my early twenties. I look at it as art, not an old lady hobby. And a gift to those we quilt for. Give your hubby an old wool scratchy blanket to use and he will change his mind.

cmagee84 04-27-2011 06:02 PM

50, started quilting at 32!

Jenni M 04-27-2011 06:02 PM

51 and a newbie as well. LOVE me some quilting!!!
