I had to do a quick guestimate for a new Homeowners insurance policy and my husband was standing there. OMG I guessed about $30,000. I have a very large stash, with 80 quit kits, and about 1/4 of those were $300 to $400 per kit. the rest all cost between $100 to 300 and about half have extra yardage.
I probably undervalued the entire value, Brother emb machine, Baby Brother sewing, Singer Treadle x2, Singer vintage, Nolting long arm, several full bolts of batting, at least 5 to 600 embroidery cones, Bali pops galore, and who knows what else? Yep, I undervalued. Just my Julie Niemeyer, Jenny Haskins, and Jacquelyn de Jonge patterns are worth at least $3,000. And that doesn't count the other other 200 books and patterns. Yep, definitely undervalued. |
I don't want to admit to myself how much I spent, even on sale.

I don't want to admit to myself and others just how much I have. :o) |
Last year I got a daily planner from a company. I stapled most of my receipts. Oh my. I had some gift cards and cash given for gifts but still. Thought I was budgeting pretty good. I was wrong.

Replacement cost and current value are way different things. Not all homeowners are insured for replacement value.
Just look at all the posts over the last few years. "40 yards for five dollars" "two dollars a pound" etc. A stash is a crypt for gone money :) |
To me, my stash is worth a million bucks because I will never find most of the fabrics in it ever again! :o That won't fly with the insurance company, that's only my perception of its value. Personally, I've been thinking it would be a good idea to have the finished quilts in our home appraised and attaching a rider to my insurance policy for them.

Remember, this is replacement value. Remember all those bargains you scrimped and saved for. FULL RETAIL VALUE!! Not cuddle value, not resale value. Be ruthless, if you had to go and buy new, full price, what is it worth in today's prices.
|
A million dollars 'cause I can't afford to buy new!!!
|
oh my! I am afraid to figure that out... but for insurance purposes it may be an important thing to know
|
Do not forget to add thread, rulers, cutters, zipper, sewing / embroidery machine, cutting machines, digitizing software laptop etc. mine was a chunk 3 years ago!! The insurance carrier died when he was looking at it - didn't realize the prices etc lol
