I'm curious too, what she means by "patch work"...?

See....

(The quilt inspector weighs 16 pounds, so he makes the quilt look smaller than it is.)

that looks like it would be pretty with a floral center square - quick too!

I wouldn't think so. I asked her if she had any quilts or if she needed any. She said that her mom had made her some and they were embroidered and that she didn't like patch work. I don't think it will be quilted it will be tied! I have never quilted anything and I'm not going to learn between now and Jan 9th!!

I'm thinking strips. Jelly rolls. they are already cut and I wouldn't have to cut it! She likes purple and silver! I think maybe a hint of black would be cool make the silver really pop!!

I'm guessing by no patchwork, she meant no scrappy and maybe no calicos. A color controlled pattern may be more to her liking. The purple, silver and black sounds like a winner.

How about cutting those colors into 2 1/2 inch strips and chopping them into 14 to 21 pieces. Then sew them together in a staggered fashion with the colors in a random order.

How about a 3 fabric tossed 9-patch. Solid light for the center and coordinating fabrics/colors for the other 2.
I use this pattern a lot when making baby quilts for my grands.

By her not wanting a patchwork quilt, I'm not sure I would make her a quilt at all, unless you can find out exactly what she would consider to NOT be patchwork. I would take it to mean she would want a whole cloth quilt.

What about the 10 minute squares? That should be really quick and easy.

What about a quilt as you go quilt?
Sandwich your backing and batting.
Draw a line to show the center top to bottom and side to side.
Start with a strip of fabric the full length top to bottom and place it along the center top to bottom line.
Place the next strip face down on the first and sew one side with a 1/4" seam. Flip the top strip over and press.
Add the next strip face down on strip #2 and stitch it down, and flip.
Once you get one side down, turn the quilt so that the finished side is on the left.
Start adding strips from the center out again.
The best part is, when you're done, it's quilted too.
Just add a border if you want, and bind by machine.
Easy as pie.

I think before you put out a lot of effort, you should find out what she wants. To me patchwork means no pieces. Maybe she has seen some scrap quilts and doesn't want anything with lots of little pieces. I think you should ask her. Maybe she would rather have placemats or an apron, etc.
