quilt backing for yardage
I have discovered a very good deal on ebay for white quilt backing. Can I also use this backing for the white yardage in my quilt?
Thank you |
If I find backing at a good price at my LQS, I will use it on a throw, incorporating some into the piecing and using the rest for the back. Remember, however, that purchasing fabric on ebay might be risky. I only buy name brand fabric online both regular and wide quilt backing. Read the info carefully and see if they have a return policy.

You have to be careful about quality but yes, you can use it in your quilt top. I buy most of my fabrics on eBay, but I only buy the ones that I know the manufacturer's name. Just bought a couple of Layer cakes from Hoffman for under $20 each.

I use a good quality natural muslin for my "backgrounds" and backing.

I use backing fabrics in my quilts all the time. If its the color I'm looking for, why not? At times when I'm at my fabric store I'll check on their remnants of backings. Usually they're too small as a backing as I make mostly large quilts so I'll pick them up at a discount.

Is there a name brand to look for in muslin and what quality should I look for? Also if I wanted to use muslin for my background ,do they make black muslin? I obviously never thought of using muslin for my background. Thanks for the info.

I buy 108 inch muslin all the time for blocks. Its cheaper and I get more out of it. Fabric is fabric you can use it how you see fit.

I love Premium Legacy Muslin at joanns. It has a very soft hand and softens even more when washing. Use a coupon. To me its the best muslin they sell. I don't buy muslin anywhere else

I've been using a huge piece of Moda Bella 108" that I misscut forever for blocks.

Absolutely. If it saves you money and works with your other fabrics.... I would go for it.
