Quilt for the Bathroom
I was folding bath towels this morning and some are still nice and usable, except for staining and or bleach spots. Think I will make some quilt rugs, using the towel as my base. Selvages, scraps, or paper piece with the towel being the paper, and when the towel is filled up, trim about an inch beyond the towel all the way around and fold/sew to backside. Won't even need to quilt. Can't wait to get started! Anyone do this and how did they turn out? Pics? Thanks.

Wow! Memories resurfaced. My aunt had a lot of kids (7). She would take everyone else's towels when they would get new. She took them apart and pieced the better ones together. She had the thickest bath towels and bath mats. She also made sure they coordinated. The cutaway pieces sometimes became dish towels or mop rags. She rarely threw anything away. We often thought she was a tightwad and now realize she was just thrifty. How ever it works for you will be the way to go.

We made a bathmat here last year or the year before, a mystery project. Here's the link, maybe something useful there for you. http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...g-t214011.html

Well, finally found some on line. This is what I was thinking of, sort of. http://pjquilts.blogspot.com/2010/08...-bath-mat.html or this http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bDWi7L9tyL...0/DSC_0170.JPG

Not only do those old towels make lovely bath mats but they make good dish draining mats also for draining stuff too large or bulky to put in the dishwasher. I actually bought one and I love it, but will not buy any more because I will make the next one. I think they would make good Christmas/birthday gifts also.

I have been cutting my old towels up for years and using the best for the backings on my "mug rugs". I zig zag the other pieces for my cleaning rags. Nothing goes to waste. Lots of good ideas from all you ladies.

Oh sure! I had just convinced myself to get rid of a big box of old towels to make room in my laundry room. Now I have to keep it, and maybe even move it into my sewing area so I remember to use them!

I made rugs (not bath) to match my bedrunner, dresser runner, pillow shams, etc. I will be making more.

If you're going to use them as bath mats make sure you back them with something non-slip. I had a bath mat slip when getting out of the shower causing me to fall and almost lost my foot.
