Hi everyone,

I have only made one quilt, a rag quilt. I am hoping to try my hand at a D9P soon. What way do you prefer to edge/bind your quilt? Do you prefer using the backing material or bias tape? Is either way easier than the other?

Thanks for the info and help.

Have a great day/evening!!

Double fold binding

I take a 2.5 inch strip, fold in half and machine sew to back of quilt. Then I flip it over and hand stitch to front of quilt. I miter the corners. I love doing the binding. there are great videos on line regarding how to do this.

(aka double fold binding)

I always make my own, same way that hopetoquilt does.

I have found that the prepared parkaged binding does not wear well, frays on edge after awhile.

I also think that the binding is the final frame on the quilt and usually use a fabric that will give the quilt it's final flurish.

If I use a plaid, or any geometric pattern, I like it on the bias.

2.5" strip folded sewed to front and folded to the back and hand stithed. with mitred corners. Lots of tutorials

I like to make a separate binding from some of the fabric used in the quilt. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-124902-1.htm
Here is one tutorial. There are lots of tutorials on the web. Google how to bind a quilt and you will get lots of information. Find a style that you like. There is no right or wrong.

Double fold binding. Cut 2.5"

Thanks everyone! I'm sure I will have a ton of questions when and if I ever get that part of the quilt.

Hi EmsMom, I am in WA, too. I like to do a doubled-over binding, too and also think that sometimes a bias one looks really great ( in the case of plaids and some patterns).

I prefer making my own binding to match.
