quilt blocks and superstition
I am curious about quilt blocks with superstitions attached. I have heard of not making a Wandering Foot block for a young man to sleep under. Evidently he will go on a journey. Have you heard any other's

I have heard names but no superstitions.

I have to chuckle a bit...I heard that same superstition about knitting a sweater for a daughters boyfriend.

Hi Maggie8801, I've also heard that about the wandering foot block as well as wandering ways. but no other superstitions. I bet there's a book out there about quilt blocks and meanings, superstitions, etc. thought provoking question for sure!

Never heard of any and would not believe them them if I do.
|
I've never heard any either.

I have heard about some - but if I really liked the block - I would just give it another name - or find another name for it - and ignore the superstition.
|
What does the wandering foot block look like? Never heard of it!

Google this - "quilt block superstitions" to find a lot. One is from this QB in January of 2009!

I recall in the Elm Creek Quilts books that a number of quilt names had associations with superstitions, such as the wandering foot. I think that referred to a Drunkard’s Path pattern.
