I have to chuckle a bit...I heard that same superstition about knitting a sweater for a daughters boyfriend.

Hi Maggie8801, I've also heard that about the wandering foot block as well as wandering ways. but no other superstitions. I bet there's a book out there about quilt blocks and meanings, superstitions, etc. thought provoking question for sure!

I have heard about some - but if I really liked the block - I would just give it another name - or find another name for it - and ignore the superstition.

I recall in the Elm Creek Quilts books that a number of quilt names had associations with superstitions, such as the wandering foot. I think that referred to a Drunkard’s Path pattern.

I always laugh at the superstitions about quilt blocks. My favorite quilt growing up was a pink and white drunkard's path. It had been red and white but faded to a hot pink. Loved it and I didn't turn out a drunkard. LOL.
