What a nightmare indeed. I'm so sorry for both you and the little girl. I don't have a favorite fun quilt but I've seen lots of cute patterns here.

Have you thought about a healing project or on-going activity, that would include you and your daughter and the recovering girl and her mom? Something that is special and can last the summer. Maybe a pick-a-park-picnic where every week, the girls pick a different park and the four of you have a picnic there? Talk it over with the mom and see if you can help strengthen the girls' friendship and everyone can recover from this nightmare.

Go ahead and make a healing/comforting quilt but this will take time to make. It will help you heal as you make it and the girl will love it when it is completed.

So sorry for what she and your family went through, my prayers go out to both your families. I agree with Tartan that an I Spy quilt, if you can find enough things to "spy" might help her pass the time as she recovers. Another suggestion would be a simple 9-patch and snowball quilt, perhaps with dogs, cats or other animals; it would go together quickly, even if you don't snowball the plain blocks. That's always been my "go-to" quilt when I need one in a hurry.

I'm so sorry that this happened. It is a difficult thing to deal with for all. I'm sure a quilt will cheer her up.

My only suggestion would be to get it done FAST!! The pain is fresh, your remorse is fresh, and for a child, it's needs to get there soon! Don't fiddle around looking for the 'perfect' pattern and colors. Just pick something and get it done! She and her mother will remember your kind, thoughtful gift when she was hurt, not whether you use an ohio star, nine patch or snowball block with colors gathered over many months.

My sympathy to the little girl and God Bless you for doing the right thing with regard to both the dog and the little girl.

What does the little girl love? Favorite colors? Once you find that out, you can make a customized quilt for her! Your daughter may know the answer to both of those questions.

These are all great suggestions! She's doing well after her surgery and now keeps asking how I'm doing. I still keep having nightmares, but hoping that will end in time.

Maybe something simple like a YBR in bright pastels. In a mix of fun fabrics like dots, stripes, chevrons, zigzags, a fun flower ect. They all seem to like their names on things, so maybe applique her name or a large initial either on the front or back. There are tons of lines of fabrics like this that all coordinate. And it won't be too old or too young.
