I take a small piece ( 1") of that rubbery shelf liner and put it under my ruler.Works for larger rulers too,no need to glue.Removable and just move around.

This is what I put on the whole back of all of my rulers that are not non-stick to keep them from slipping. I didn't have much luck with the dots and the Invisigrip was too expensive. There are several thicknesses of vinyl -- I buy the cheapest.

I use the Invisigrip. I buy it when it is on sale or when I have a store coupon.

I tried the Nexcare tape after someone mentioned it here on the QB once before, and it works better than anything I've tried yet. And I already had it in my medicine cabinet so it didn't cost me anything!

I have the Quilt in a Day Flying geese ruler and it is very slick. I use old fashion Rubber cement on it. Flip it over - back side up and put a light coat on it - let it dry. It will be clear, flat, nonslip and easily removed if it gets too icky with threads. Learned this trick from a longarm class instructor.

I purchased the Invisigrip for some of my rulers but to be honest, I like the little sandpaper dots better. Another tip would be to have your hand half on the ruler and half on the cutting board while cutting, try it.
