What do you call the kinds of dishes that are dark blue enamel over metal with white speckles like for camping? I want to incorporate the dishes in a quilt but don't know what to search for. They are very old fashioned and I know there's a specific name for them, just don't know it :) antiques aren't my thing (at least until I become one!)

I think what you are looking for might be enamel.

Also got some good hits on the term "enamelware" http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...ls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=blue%20Speckled%20enamelware&um=1&ie =UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi |
Yes. I think it is enamal ware or spatter ware. Not sure but have some pieces of it myself.

You've got my curiosity up. How are you planning to oncorporate the dishes into a quilt? Piece ~ Tiffany |
Curious, too. I love that old enamel ware.
|
probably applique. I think I'm going to have to "speckle" the fabric myself if I can find a perfect blue Bali.

An old toothbrush works great for speckles. Dip lightly into paint, then run your thumb across the bristles to send specks flying. You may want to use a large cardboard box as a containment system.

Is this what you have in mind, babeegirl.
There should be some Christmas fabrics that would work. |
