Compared to a lot of kit prices I've seen, that one seems not too bad, price-wise. If you have not done so already, look at a lot of other kits (Connecting Threads; Keepsake Quilting, etc.) ... see sizes, what's included with them and what is the cost. That should help you to decide.

Have you seen the Salina Yoon train activity quilt?

At fabric.com you can get all four panels for 15.96+shipping and I am sure you might be able to even find a coupon even though they are on sale to make it even cheaper.

I ordered a quilt kit from them and was so happy. I could have just ordered the fabric, but it was just a little cheaper that way and with the kit I had the pattern in hand. They send plenty of extra fabric so if you make a mistake cutting you have some to fix it. I was really happy with my kit.

The kit isn't a bad price since it includes the backing, pattern, and binding. Go for it!

Yeah if you figure they probably give you 2 yards for the top, 1.5 for the back, and maybe a half for the binding (and they may even give you more than that). At $8.50 a yard, that would already cost you $34. Throw in the pattern and the help they have given you coordinating everything, I'd say it's a right on price.

Cheers!
