i always put my on one of the lower corners on the back of the quilt

I attach mine to the lower right hand side on the back before quilting and quilt right through it. It looks pretty and makes sure the label never comes off.

I write on my tags with pigma pen. I find that you must iron over the writing or it will run. Made a baby quilt, for a nephew in Switzerland. After many washings I asked how the writing held up. Mom said it didn't even fade.

WEDDING QUILTS - I try to use the same font as the wedding invitation to make my label. I print a label using my computer - then I use Pigma pens & my version of a light box to trace it in the CENTER of the backing. I iron over the label to set the ink. .I plan ahead when I make the backing so that I have a light center in the backing.
MY VERSION OF A LIGHT BOX: I have a sewing table with a recessed 'hole' for my sewing machine. The machine support can be dropped out of the way. I put a piece of glass across the top and a lamp on the floor below. Voila, light box. I tape the printed paper label to the glass, so I only have one thing = the backing = to control while I'm tracing the label. OTHER QUILTS. I use the same light box, but I usually put the label in the bottom RIGHT corner. Of course, it all depends on where the backing is light enough to use the pens - I have to think ahead when I'm planning the backing. Now that I have an embroidery machine, I'm going to try embroidering labels. Pigma pens are faster, though! And I'm usually doing the label at the last minute LOL |
I put mine in lower right corner on the back. God bless. Penny

I like to put mine in the lower right hand corner!!!!

I put mine on the lower left. I've tried printing my own on white fabric with permanent markers and I made some on my computer by ironing freezer paper to the fabric so it will go into my printer.
One question: do you always label your quilts? Sometimes, I feel a little silly, like will anyone really care who made it, and would it even last long enough for anyone to see it? I stll do label them, however. (Those "quilt police" may come after me if I don't. lol) |
I think you should always label your quilts, down the road your grand---great-grand children will know when you made the quilt/wall hanging and for whom it was made.

I agree, always label the quilt. I adore old quilts and quite often look at a beautiful old quilt and wonder when, where, who made it. Besides, with the introduction of cheaply-made imported quilts, labels may be really important one day.
