Is there a particular area of the quilt you will put a label on? I am new to this and would like some input.
I usually put mine in the lower right corner on the back. No real reason, just where I put them.
ANywhere on the back. Usually on a corner.
Me too for right hand corner.
I usually attach my label to the lower right. Your eyes naturally rest to the right...
I like to put my label on the lower right or lower left corner right before I hand stitch the binding down to the back so that I only have two sides of the label to hand stitch once I finish hand-stitching the binding.
I put my name, city and state and the year (s)the quilt was made on a label sewn on the lower right corner on the back.
Another label with the name of the quilt and for whom it was made is sewn on the lower left side. Sometimes they're hand embroidered labels, other times I print labels on pre-treated fabric with my logo. |
Back side, lower right. Sometimes embroidered by a professional other times I write the info on a label with a pigma ink pen.
Back side lower right. :D:D:D
Getting better at this, sometimes sign name in quilting. :)
How did you do that fancy name? one at a time or on little tags?
Sorry note was to quilting granny. But you don't like grammy!

The right corner of the back is my choice too.
I use a embroidered quilt label. It usually goes in the right bottom corner sometimes the left.
Me too for the lower right hand corner. That way when I take a pic I can just flip the corner for the pic.
I put them on the bottom corner on the back.
I put my labels on the lower right corner of the back. I either write on the backing fabric with an extra-fine point permanent fabric pen or sew on a label BEFORE quilting, that way the labels can't be removed without a lot of work!
I've been working mine into the patterns in the front. Generally the lower right corner though.
And how big do you usually make the labels?

I usually hand stitch my labels on the lower right corner. They're generally 4 inches high and 5-6 inches wide. I hand print the info using a fine, permanent marker. I always include quilt title, my name, year, size (width x height). Anything else that I think is important to remember (occasion, name of recipient, name of anyone else who added to the quilt) I include on the label. I usually write the info then trim the fabric and press the folded edges. Learned the hard way that cutting first may mean starting over!
I'm left handed and I usually place mine on the back in the left lower corner :)
Size is determined by where I can work it in on quilt. Recipient, my name and year is all that I put on them.
Usually I put it on the back in the lower right corner
I don't use a label.I make a small fabric envelope and I always put a little note in the envelope with what I want to say to that special person that I give my quilts to.I make the envelope using the same fabric that is in the quilt top.I sew it to a corner. Then I make a pillow case to put it in when I give it as a gift.
I just bought a new quilt label program for my embroidery unit. It is from 'Anita Goodesign'. Now I can embroider the labels before attaching.

We have a new young woman in our Q club. She brought in a beautiful quilt she had made and we quilted it. After it was off the frame she told us there was a hole in the back, nothing we had done. We told her that is where the tag goes. Lucky it was the bottom right corner.

Lately I make sure that I cut off the entire selvege about 1" wide. Then I write what ever important info near the woven edge, sew the raw edge along the bottom back of the quilt, apply binding and hand stitch down the woven edge of the selvege. My other label is heart shaped and I tuck the pointy end of the heart into the the corner before binding. Sometimes I just write on the heart and other times I richly hand embroider after it is sewn in place.

I think a lot of people put them on the lower right, but I am a bit of a rebel (AND left-handed) I put them on the other side. |

I have recently started doing a diagonal label across the lower edges. I do a design on the embroidery machine, finish it off on the longer edges, and catch the shorter edges in the stitching when I'm adding the binding. Then I hand stitch the top and bottom edges of the label so the label doesn't get caught on anything.
lower corners are generally perferred by qilters, HOWEVER keep an open mind if a problem comes up w/ the back! My sister had a problem w/a quilt for a wedding, that ended up w/a stain, near the middle of the back.Washing it didn't help. She promptly made a BIGGER label & slapped it over the stain! It was loved & no one knew she almost gave money instead!

There are no rules. I put mine on the bottom corner and if it's a wall hanging, I put it upside down so that you can read the label when you lift the corner of the quilt.
I have been told that they should go on the back at the botom right corner.

I like the lower right hand corner.
I attatch the label in the lower right corner. For the quilts I give to the grandkids. I machine sew them on the back before it is quilted, thus assuring that it will stay in place with rough wear.
I make my labels with the help of my computer "card" program and print them off on printable fabric . It is easy to personalize them. |
