If you use the search function, there are quite a few posts. Here are just a few:

I bought one in a store that was more of a tri-folding unit for displaying my quilts when I was doing craft shows. I still have it now in my quilting studio holding up my peg board where I keep most of my quilting stencils.

I just bought a 4 ft. decorative bamboo ladder in Home Goods. I was able to display three lap quilts. I only paid $20 for it. I love it.

I have my grandfather's old ladder (must be over 70 yrs old) that MrJanRn lightly sanded and sealed; also found 2 old bunk bed ladders in my neighbor's trash, also sanded and sealed. I have quilts folded over the 5 rungs of the large ladder and use the small ones for runners, wallhangings, etc. I think the most important thing to do is to SEAL the wood--you don't want the wood oils seeping into quilt fabric. I've used these for a number of years and haven't had any discoloration of my fabrics.

I saw a crib whose sides had been converted to hanging ladders, beautiful, and always have a safe finish. I see them ever so often at thrift stores and yard sales

Thanks everyone. DH decided to buy one instead of making one. He said the end result would not be the same as the woodworking expert. Now... to decide where to put it!
