There are so many quilt magazines out there, if you could have only one subscription to a quilt magazine, which one would it be and why?
Gosh, there's so many good ones....Hard to choose....:)
I gave up on all of them and use the on-line goodies for free. The last couple of subscriptions have been very disappoiinting. If I wanted, I could get some mags on disk from QuiltPro.
If I could only have one it would be Machine Quilting Unlimited. Because I can get patterns any where and every where for free but the details and how tos of machine quilting are harder to come by.

I like American Quilter, too. It's become a tiny bit more pattern oriented, but it shows some interesting techniques, plus they have pictures of the winners in their quilt shows. Janet |
My one indulgence is quilt magazine subscriptions-I subscribe to 7 of them! I enjoy (and have subscribed to it the longest-10 years)Quiltmaker-I find the patterns and instructions really easy to follow and have made many from that one. I also enjoy McCalls Quilting, Fons and Porter's For the Love of Quilting, and Quilter's Home (though they are going out of publication as I understand-I loved it when Mark Lipinski was at the helm-loved the magazine for everything except the patterns, but got so many great patterns from the others. I actually enjoy ALL my magazines and continually thumb thru them (even the oldest ones) for inspiration and when I find a new fabric I have to have-to find a suitable pattern for it. If you are a beginner quilter, I think Quiltmaker and Quick Quilts would be a good start-pleanty of beginner-friendly patterns and tuts.
Haven't heard of that mag. Will have to look for it.
I used to subscribe to three of them but stopped them all. Not sure if it's just me, but most of the magazines out there seem to recycle patterns on an 18 month cycle. It got to be the same patterns over and over, just different color ways. I keep up with tools, notions, fabrics, and techniques through this board and other online sites (love youtube for all the how-to videos!!). I put my $$ into EQ7 and am making my own patterns and having a lot of fun doing it.
I love so many I would find it hard to just have one.
I say none. Can't seem to find anything really unique anymore. If a fabric trend is successful in one once, others repeat. I can't seem to be able to tell them apart.
I like American Patchwork & Quilting. Just wish they would let me subscribe to it here in Australia.
I do buy it from time to time at the newsagent and my lovely July doll quilt partner sent me a copy last month. It was the best treat ever. |
I subscribe to a few, but Quiltmaker is my favorite. It always has really great quilt patterns, and has variations for different sizes for most of the patterns.
I also get American Patchwork & Quilting, and love it. And Fons & Porter, which my DH gifts me every Christmas. McCall's is also good. |
quiltmaker is a fav, but when looking for specific patterns, i turn to mc calls quick quilts, and just quilt, and of course, quiltmaker for all the cool motifs. i do not like fons n porter, i guess maybe its personal preference, you asked, and i said..
thanks for listening,, katz |
Fons and Porter is my choice. I have had subscriptions to alot and have cut it down to one. Good luck in choosing.
Hate paying for a magazine that I may or may not ever use one of the patterns. Free stuff is a lot better.
I love The Quilter. It's my all-time fave. I've done several patterns and they're marked Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced so you know what you're getting into. You can order back issues online and see which patterns are in which one, too. So you can look over all the goodies and pick out your project before you pay :)
Double post--darn my impatience!
Most of them have a hard time trying to provide new ideas at all levels on a regular basis. I generally only pick ones that have new(to me) techniques in them. However, I do find "The Quilter" consistently good.
I have over the years subscribed to all but QUILTMAKER is the only one I have not gotten bored with. I love their quilting design patterns which the other mags don't do. I like more than "Quilt as desired."
in the past i subscribed to 5 but have let them all run out ,the one i really wish for now is American Quilter...i guess i better open the checkbook and when the moths finish flying out, i will bite the bullet and subscribe
I usually have 4 subscriptions going each year. The only quilting magazine I get continuously every year is the American Quilter because that is part of the subscription to American Quilting Society.
I keep a list of the quilt magazines out there... so I can cycle through the list. I always have 2 or 3 rotating subscriptions a year... staggered by season, so that when one sub runs out, I subscribe to a different magazine. That way I never get bored. My newest quilt mag is The Quilt Life...(my first subscription to this one). I should receive my first issue sometime this month. |
On rainy days, I go to Barnes&Noble, get a cup of coffee and look through all of the quilt magazines. If I get a subscription again it will be American Patchwork and Quilting.
I usually buy one magazine during these rainy day trips. |
My favorite is Australian patchwork and quilting. Too expensive to get here. The postage is a killer. It is cheaper to get it sent thru Canada but still a lot. One of the LQS has it for less than I can subscribe to it. I can flip thru it and decide if I want to buy it.
I don't subscribe but every now and then see one on the newsstands that appeals to me.

I subscribe to Quilter's World, Fons & Porter Love of Quilting, and American Patchwork and Quilting. I would definitely not subscribe to any either. There's just too many free patterns and tutorials online. I was really upset when Fons & Porter came with clothing sales in the middle of it, but my last one did not have it. Perhaps enough people voiced their dislike at this.

I really enjoy Marc Lipinski's Fabric Trends. It has been revamped and is so much better than all the rest. This is the only subscription I have.
I like of Fons and Porters and McCalls Quilting.

I look at them in the supermarkets and bookstores. If I find that I like to buy one pretty consistently then I subscribe. Right now it is American Patchwork and Quilting, McCall's Quilting and Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting.

the one i would really like is "Quilts and More" they come out quarterly, and it is one you have to find in the shops,no subscription. it has quilt patterns and some little sewing items/projects in it too. always great! if i were you, i would watch the classified section here, and buy them used. or the free section and offer to pay for shipping. i let all mine lapse. no plans on starting them up again. |
American Patchwork and Quilting........it has something for everyone and complete, easy to follow instructions.
This would be my choice. It has consistently had good patterns and articles. The other magazines just aren't what they used to be and that is disappointing to me. I've taken them all, so I can relate to what has happening in the publishing business. I also would not subscribe to on on-line magazine. I was unhappy with that process and didn't renew my subscription.

Quilters Newsletter Magazine.
My all-time favourite and continuously subscribed-to magazine is Quilters Newsletter Magazine. Have been a fan & subscriber for more than 15 years.
American Patchwork & Quilting......Quiltmaker, also.
I like Fons and Porter, Quilt, Quiltmaker and McCall's Quilting.
Of the magazines I subscribe to now, I think I would keep Quilting Arts. I don't manage to make many projects in it, but I love to dream and have tons of pages marked for future projects.
I subscribe to Fons and Porter, American Patchwork and Quilting, Quilt and F&P Easy Quilts. I like them all but I am going to let them run out. There is so much to get free online and you can be selective. I do love to get my magazines out often and browse through them. I keep them in binders and keep a master list of quilts I want to do.
Right now I get Fon's and Porter. Last week I picked up a magazine that had some small projects along with the patterns. I think I'll take a subscription to it. Can't remember the name, but they routine have several small projects-----------this month's are neat. Including a baby bib
