quilt making me dizzy

Okay, I am making a rail fence/9 patch in two colors. And it is making me dizzy!! I just finished my blocks and put them on the design wall, and I think I am going to like it....I sure hope so.

My question is do you think it will make anyone who looks at it dizzy? Does it make you dizzy?

It will have blue triangle things to complete the sides, then a thin white border and a wider blue border. Or at least that was my plan when I started. :) I sort of think that will take the dizzy aspect out of it. Do you all think that will work?

It does sort of move, doesn't it? Surprising with white and blue.

We're looking at it full on. When the quilt is on a bed, the angle will be different.

It's really nice but it does appear to be moving. Maybe it's the power of suggestion?

It's because we are looking at it close up, front and center. It will not have the dizzy effect when it is quilted and on the bed. By the way, it's a beautiful quilt.

Interesting effect. I wonder if it's in part due to the pieces not matching because you haven't sewn them together yet. My eyes kind of dart around. Love the colours!

It's gorgeous, and a little movement makes it exciting to look at!

I love it! Don't change a thing.

I agree with b.zang. I think it's because the blocks aren't sewn together. The top half doesn't seem to move, just the bottom half where the blocks don't line up exactly. And the setting triangles will give it more framing. I think it will look smoother when it is finished. I love the colors and the pattern.

Right now it's like an optical illusion, where the eye can't settle anywhere because of all of the incongruities in the current design -- e.g. the lines don't all line up, you're looking at it much closer than you normally would, and at a straight on angle, which would be unusual for a quilt pattern. Once you finish the quilt, have everything lined up and bordered, and have it lying on a bed, and are viewing from a proper distance and angle, you will likely still have a sense of movement from this lovely pattern and color choice, but it shouldn't give you disequilibrium! Really, you'll be fine.

I love it ! I am partial to that shade of blue :) Can't wait to see it all together
