Here is one I made for my son, he loved it so much it brought tears to his eyes.

I work at a fabric store and we have a machine called AccuCut, which is similar to the Accuquilt machines you see in fabric stores now, only a little bigger. We have dies (like square or heart shapes) that not only cut out that pattern, but also makes little 1/2" cuts along the edges. It elimates the snipping you do to make a rag quilt.

I've also down a jean quilt for my newphew. He was really into Nascar, so I alternated 5" squares of jean fabric and a cotton fabric with a race car fabric. I also used seams and pockets on my jean squares - and even used a leather tag with the words "Lee" on it - because his name is Lee. He still has it on his bed 8 years later.

I made a denim and lace quilt out of old jeans and it is very heavy. It was fun to make, because I did it like a crazy quilt and put a lace ruffle around the edges.

Heritage Cultery Inc sells a great pair of ragging scissors. I have both the Fiskars and the Heritage and I hardly ever use the Fiskars since I bought the Heritage, they are better quality & easier to use and much easier on the hands.

What a cool idea! Sure it would work, why not. I like the idea of cutting them into 9" squares. You could add nice white cotton trim around some of the square or as a border. You could also do nice silk ribbon embroidery in the squares, like pink roses.
I love the idea. I am going to ask my daughter-in-law to start saving the jeans from my 3 grandsons, herself and my son. I would love to make a quilt with that.

It's on my list of quilts to make - and I've been gathering old jeans from family and friends - so this blog has given me ideas and inspiration - thanks! But I still have about 14 other projects ahead of it - so it will still be another year or so before I tackle this project!

I have made three. I learned the hard way that I made the first one too heavy. The ragged edge ones turned out much better.

I have made several. Obviously the easiest ones are just squares. I have added fun cotton fabric for alternate squares and it works just fine. My favorites are the Log Cabin. I usually make those strips 2 1/2 to 3 inches wide and they go together really fast. I have never used the seams, but I do like to incorporate the pockets for a fun touch. When people found out I made them, they started leaving boxes of old jeans in my garage! I wouldn't even know who left them until someone would ask if I found them (sometimes more than a month later). So I have a lot of work ahead of me!
