Not a good idea to let her join our group. She would ruin it for the newbies you aren't sure of themselves yet. But....if we more experienced quilters could just get her alone.......

I do not know how you managed to be so nice and polite I know I would of lost it especially when she started in on your daughters clothes, Some people do not have any manners at all. Obliviously she was never taught to be polite and tactfull. I admire you for being able to keep your cool like that

I hope your friend's critical cousin doesn't keep her from enjoying quilting. She just needs to do what feels and looks right to her and never, ever show the cousin what she is working on.

my hubby has a sign in his office:

"ignorance can be cured, but stupid goes clear to the bone."

it's too bad that some folks never learn to just admire, and not to criticize. it might have been different if the "cousin" was an established fabric artist in her own right--but i suspect that if a fabric expert did approach you, they would do so with finesse and admiration of your skills, not as the "quilt police".

sounds like you should get a medal for good behavior under undue pressure!

You are a good and gracious woman. I'll never be able to understand what makes people act like your friend's cousin. Do you suppose they feel more important if they are making other people upset or unhappy?

YES,   Congratulations on your restraint, as much as I would love to believe that I am a good person, I do not believe I would of been so gracious. She might of found herself skidding down the driveway on her way out!

Reminds me of my DIL who told me I didn't know anything about raising children. (After I raised 3 wonderful successful adult children and she has been a parent for only 8 years.)

There is no explaining rude, mean, hateful people.
