I LOVE my basement room. It is dry and there is a gas fireplace for extra heat when needed, a kettle, microwave, and doors that shut tight when necessary. I have cable tv and tons of storage, When I get going I do not even realize I am in the hole. Love it!

As long as you have a dehumidifer to run it should be okay.
I have a sewing room in our basement & run the dehumidifer all summer long & of course the heat in the winter takes care of moisture in the winter. Make sure you have plenty of light to sew with.

When we had a house, I had my sewing room in the basement. No problem at all, although we did keep a dehumidifier in the room. We live in a condo now with no basement. My husband just told me yesterday he wished I'd never gotten into quilting because now the house is a mess (I sew on the dining room table because there's no other place I could put a sewing machine.)

I have my entire basement (apartment) to myself, lucky me, as my sewing area. The only draw back is with so much room my stash is growing and growing. Seems the more room a person has, it is just natural that one would want to fill it up. I live in the southern part of the country and keep a dehumidifier running 24/7 just in case. Never had a problem with moisture.

I have my sewing room in the basement which is also the 3rd bedroom, so it has a nice size window. I have carpet on the floor most times its warm in the room, the only time it isn't warm is when the weather is nice out side so the furnace doesn't run. I just make sure that I turn on my machine right away so that it is kind of warmed up when I go to sew.

I bet if someone figured out how to quilt or cut at the treadmill it would get used!

I have a 12 X 20 ft. former storage room ( in my newish husbands home) that was carpeted but not used. So I found other places for the stuff, stored books from the huge shelves and had two large shop lights installed in the basement room. It is my Colorado castle. I really miss it when in our winter apartment in FL. You will love your new sewing room.

As long as you have carpet down for the warmth. I would think the concrete would be rather cold, especially in your northern area. This area would also require storage areas since a basement doesn't usually have closets for storage/shelves, etc. I think organization would be key.
So go for it and enjoy the space and creative some beautiful quilts. :thumbup:

I live in Northern Wisconsin and have my quilting area in the basement. I too run a dehumidifer in the summer and a humdifier in the winter. I haven't had any problems at all with anything. My fabric stash is also downstairs and I don't have a problem with that either. I say go for it.
Where are you located? I'm up north in Woodruff. North of Wausau.

Mine is located in the basement as well. Problem is, I feel a little isolated there. Can't check on anything cooking or tend to the laundry. Of course, maybe that's a good thing.
