The part with the big quilts--was off limits to photographs, but I took 40 elsewhere. :D Most of the rest involved small quilted pictures that were inspired by another piece of art--whether a painting or sculpture. When we went to the gift shop--I was shocked. The prices on the pieces in there would make you fall over. Here are some examples.

The orangey one on the wall was over $2000. The tiny rectangles were $125 each, and the other quilt was in the hundreds.

I'll post more pictures....

Note:--switch the last two--the last is a close up of the one that's first.

Do not like the tiny rectangles at all and would never pay 125 dollars for them either.

Those are really pretty but I personally would never pay that much for them.

I have some close friends who belong to an art guild. When they have their quilts in a gallery show, they are required to put the pieces up for sale. If there are pieces they really don't want to sell, they overprice them this way. I also have spoken with several national instructors who sell their quilts for thousands of dollars and in that case, you are paying for the name. I'd have to say whoever priced the above quilts either fell into one of the two above categories or else they are simply very hopeful that some idiot will come by and actually pay that kind of price.

I would expect much more of a quilt for that kind of money, but that is my personal opinion. Actually, my personal opinion is that I can make my own for much, much less.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Several of them are amazing!

Thanks so much for sharing. The birds where my favortite. I guess I'm a visual person. I figured at those prices, you where defintley paying for the name. Maybe the fabric comes into play as well. Since fabric prices can get out rageous as well. Never really gone in for abstract art. Your Barn Quilt should of been up there with a pricey tag. I really liked and appreciated your work and effort alot more.

Thank you for sharing your photos. I enjoy going to shows and taking pictures to "relive" the moment and add some inspiration to my work.
Have you ever followed one particular quilter's work throughout the years? It is cold here this a.m. --- a minus eleven degrees F. with wind chill of minus thirty-seven degrees F. We were to have taken a bus to Houghton, Michigan to view the Michigan Tech University Ice Carnival statues. I will stay home and sew today!!!!
