Every store, shop, yardsale, or place that offers fabric. I have bought yards of desiner fabric at thrift stores, once at a dollar store in OK on a trip, I bought quality yardage most of it designer signed. Hancock's in No Little Rock is my go to store for quilt fabric. And the larger Walmart stores in AR have yardage of every value, some as much as 12.98 a yd!
Occassionally, I have bought at Hancock's and found Walmart was less expensive on sewing supplies. Their rotary replacement blades are a good buy. Happy quilting, y'all. |

We have quite a variety of great shops in the Minneapolis area. The ones I frequent are:
Quilted Treasures in Rogers - lots of Minky, kid's fabrics, batiks Blue Bamboo in Plymouth - Asian and batiks galore Twin Cities Quilting in Roseville - wonderful modern fabric collections Glad Creations Quilt Block in South Minneapolis - good mix of everything, especially solids Four Seasons Quilts in Maple Grove - lots of traditional and 30's fabrics. |
Where should I go for fabric when I visit my daughter in Denver? I want to visit Fabric Depot someday. Even though it's a 2 hour drive, I think of Yoder's in Shipshewana as my local shop.

Creative Cloth Closet in Canon City, Colorado is my favorite. Don't forget to support your favorite LQS. Without your support those stores will be closing. Even if you can only buy a fat quarter or two; they get your business and you get a fabric "fix" :)

Handcocks of Paducah!! LOVE it!

My favorite quilt store is the "Country Store Quilt Shop" in Lovington, New Mexico. I'm relatively new to quilting and the ladies there are so helpful. The store sends out a newsletter with information on classes they will be offering. It also has a large variety of quality fabric. We are a small town of 10,000 and people come to the store from bigger towns to shop here.

I like Beverly's. I buy yardage in-store, and precuts online (they sell Hoffman Bali pops for $30 online and will deliver for free to the store). And there are 2 of them within 10 miles of my home so I can almost always find what I'm looking for if one of them has run out.
As far as a non-chain, "true" LQS goes - my favorite is Quilted Angel in Petaluma, CA. It's a lovely store with a lot of great fabric, nice friendly staff, and I make SURE I go every year on my birthday because they give 20% off on birthdays. Can't beat that! Even the other shoppers there seem nicer than usual, I almost always find someone friendly to chat and trade fabric choice opinions with as we shop. :) |
Mine is Quilting Possibilities in Forked River NJ. They have a great collection of fabrics and the staff is great. I love the personel stuff. The owner called my house today because she was changing a class date from the 15to the 22. I hadn't even called her about it but I had gone to it a couple of time and she thought I would go tomorrow.

Among my favorites:
Keepsake Quilting, Centre Harbor, NH (tax free & huge selection) The Bunkhouse Quilt Shop, Lyndborough, NH Quilted Threads, Henniker, NH Knight's Quilt Shop, York, Maine Cobblestone Quilts, Townsend, MA I am also lucky to have 5 JoAnn Fabrics within a 50 mile radius (probably more than that if I stop to really think) No more Hancock Fabrics around here. No other chains that I can think of. Anita |
When I lived in Tacoma I loved Hancock Fabrics. I wasn't into quilting then, but it was my preferred fabric store. Here in Wisconsin I enjoy Quilt Essentials in Oshkosh and there a few stores in Appleton that I really like. My favorite online stores are Thousand Bolts.com and Hancock's of Paducah.
|
Fabric Depot in Portland, OR. is my favorite, too. I don't get down that way too often, but I always stop there. It is humungous!! I order online from them all the time, including today. I also like Hollyhills in Clackamas, OR., in Portland. I shop online with them also.

I am very fortunate to live in a small country town surrounded by good fabric shops. Country Treasures, a jam packed quilt shop is only a mile from my house. Tons of great fabrics, pleasant, helpful owner and employees - nearly everything I need right nearby. About ten miles west of me is Water Wheel Quilts which has less fabric, but a bright, modern theme and again, great people. Ten miles south of me is Quilt-Away, another great shop with lots of batiks, novelties, and other fabrics. Good advice available there too, and quite a few good bargains. Ten miles to the east is Frank's, a discount fabric shop with a variety of upholstery, knits, quilt fabrics and notions all at reduced prices. Not far from there is Four Pines Quilts, a small shop in New Hampshire (no sales tax on anything). Good thread selections, some nice fabrics, notions, and more great advice from the owners, a mother and son team. WalMart in that town has some yardage. There are three JoAnn's around me, each about a 45 minute drive in different directions, two of which are in tax-free New Hampshire. So basically I'm in fabric heaven here.

I'll add some other ones: Cottonweeds in Freeport, ME., Calico Basket in Windham, ME., Footprints Quilt Shop in Rochester, NH, Country Quilts and Bears in Clearwater, FL, Happy Apple Quilts in Oldsmar, FL...

i wish i was close enuf to big shops to go but my pocket book says im better off where i am! i am just under 30 miles to town, milk, and my lqs. i just have to go in and pet fabric and sneak a bit home here and there. i am also lucky enough she has published her first book and is working on a second and i have a fabulous mentor so close by i can talk to, glean advice from, and have a friendship with!

On this side of the country, in cold snowy mid-Michigan, I have two favorites and neither is really close. The first is Common Threads in a small town about 30 miles west of me and the other is the Bittersweet Quilt Shop in Pinconning Michigan. Common Threads is in the old downtown portion of St. Louis, the store front is over a hundred years old and small but packed with gorgeous fabrics, lots of fabulous small projects and the two owners offer lots of great classes and nice groups like the Jo Morton club I just joined. The Bittersweet is in a lovely old church and has a wonderful selection of amazing fabrics, projects, wools and antiques. Bittersweet is a bit farther, about 50 mile northeast of me but both are more than worth the trip.

Qbee Quilts in Charlotte is my most favorite in the area.
I live in a small town in SC, just across the state line from NC and this is the closest shop to me. Although there are some "fabric shop" nearer, Qbee is a true quilt shop. The ladies there are knowledgeable and the shop has all a quilter would need. Yep, my favorite; for many reasons. |
This is like trying to answer who your favorite children are. I have so many quilt and fabric stores that I adore. We travel a lot and I always seek out the quilt stores wherever I go. I have some I like because they have a huge selection of 1930's reproduction fabric which I collect, others because they have the best projects and ideas and so on. What is missing around where I live is a good fabric store that carries a variety of different kinds of fabric and notions and such that are of good quality and have knowledgeable staff. The quality and service at JoAnn's doesn't measure up. I shop there for some things because there isn't an alternative. In SW Michigan there is Field's Fabrics which is wonderful and when I'm in that area I always stop. Yoder's in Shipshewanna IN is also a must go when I'm in that area. A couple quilt shops I've been in, Suwannee Valley in Trenton FL and Mammaw 's Thimble in Knoxville TN have spots for men to wait. The one in Mammaw's is called the "bored" room and it is for CEOs (carry everything out). TV, comfy couches, the works. I love the Cherry Pit in Sevierville TN because they are so friendly and accommodating there and they have such neat projects on display. Knowledgeable staff and having them glad that I am there goes a long way in my book.

I wish we had quilt shops around here. I want to move. lol lol All the fabric shops we have here is Wal-mart and Joann's. So on line is always good here to but then you have to wait for the material to come. Guess I have no patience.

I am interested in what your favorite quilt stores are and why and where they are located.
Mine is Fabric Depot in Portland, OR it is so huge and has just about everything you could ever want. i love fabric Depot also. I've bought fabric online and in the store. Wonderful selection. I also love Zooks in Intercourse, PA. The prices can't be beat. |
CKCowl I've been to the Quilt shop in IndianRiver MI and it is everything you said it is except it is about 4-5 hours from where I live. When we get up to the upper of MI I like to stop in there. I like going to Sisters in Quilting in Marlette MI. Brett and Deb are wonderful and their shop is so inviting. When we go visit my MIL in Alma MI I have my hubby stop at Seven Sisters Quilt shop in CArson City. It too is a great shop. I only wish we had some of these closer to me.
|
Only one privately owned quilt store here. The others are from 40 - 100 miles away, (the closest). No fabric stores at all here or closer than 150 miles away. We do have a Walmart with fabrics here and that's it.
|
REtired Fire Chief I've been to those stores too. We have many wonderful shops in Michigan. A couple of summers ago my hubby & I did a quilt tour through MI. At every shop we stopped I took a pic of the inside of the store and the outside with their sign and put together a virtual Power Point shop hop for my guild. It was alot of fun and the members enjoyed it.
|
I also live in the Maryville area and I love Pappy's too. I like Mountain Creek in Greenback too, but they are very limited in space. But they do have a nice selection and very good pricing.
|
My favorite online store is Missouri Star. I love the store, the huge selection and the wonderful people that own the shop. Their employees are so helpful and the friendliest you will find anywhere. If you ever get a chance to visit the shop, you won't be disappointed! Great selection and huge selection of fabric.
|
Mine is whatever store I am in at that time. Living near Indianapolis, there are lots to go to. Quilt Plus is running over with fabric. Quilt Quarters is big, The Back Door is fun, and when I can I drive over to Threads of Time. There are in Danville, Ill. Then I have to stop in Rossville. My husband will drive me anywhere I want. Sometimes he picks the stores he finds on line. The other day we drove down to Bloomington.
|
I love Mikkers Dry Goods in Charm ,Ohio and Sue is a wonderful helper if you have questions.
|
I live in the area and go to MidSouth sewing. They have classes and sewing groups and clubs. They are very helpful and have wonderful customer service.
|
Mine used to be It's A Stitch in Humble, TX - they had great kits and patterns and a wide choice of fabrics. Unfortunately about 3 years ago they went to selling machines and only precut lengths of fabric. So disappointing.
My cousin took me to the Pine Needle in Portland, Oregon. I guess it's a good thing I don't live closer because I would probably be there every other day - fabulous selection of everything, great patterns and classes, and a great staff! |
I live just north of Cincinnati OH and we are blessed with many quilt shops close by. Bella quilts, Pohlar fabrics, Sew Easy, Seams So Easy, Aunt Ruths, Quilters Studio, Stitches, Sewn, Silk ROad. I think that is all of them within 20 miles of my house. If I drive a little bit further there are a bunch more. I really like Fabric Shack about 30 miles away.
I'm not sure if it is a good thing or not but most of the shops know me and my fabric tastes. There are also several JoAnns, Hancocks and Hobby Lobby close by. |

My favorites close to me are Crafty Corner in Worthington, Minnesota and Quilt 'n' Kaboodle in Cherokee, Iowa. Both have very friendly and helpful staff and have wonderful selections of great fabric.

Lolly's in Shipshewana, Indiana.

I am lucky to have several good quilt shops close to me. My favorites are
Cotton and Choclate in Thousand Oaks, Ca Quilt Emploriam in Woodland Hills Ca Candys Quilt Works in Reseda Ca All are within resonable driving distance from me. I do like to support my local quilt shops so that they will stay in business. I only shop online when I am looking for something I can't find locally. |
Have heard of the Marsh Store but never been, maybe this spring.

I would like to ask the Canadian quilters, if there are any Canadian online stores. The prices of the U.S. online stores are fabulous, unfortunately by the time shipping and handling is added on, the savings are soon eaten up. I would like to order from Canada too. I occasionally order from the U.S. and will keep ordering if it is something that I can not get here and there is a fair bit of that. Thank you!

There's a two story log cabin quilt store in Cosby, Tenn that I've been to 3 times....has such a darling set up and quilts made hanging from rafter and great selection of quality fabric, kits. I think it's called Halloway
|
OK, so not really close to me, but in my hometown a little more than an hour from where I live now, Painted Pony in La Porte, Texas, has always been my absolute favorite LQS. I love that place. More locally, we have a couple quilt shops within 15 or so miles, but neither blow my skirt up. Quilt & Sew in Katy always makes me feel like an outsider, and their customer service isn't that great (at least, not for me). QuiltWorks in Cypress isn't bad, but I'm not crazy about the layout of the shop and the selection isn't so great unless you're looking for batiks, which I rarely use.
Back across town and a little south of where I grew up, Sew Contempo in Clear Lake is also a favorite. I just love them. |
