Thanks again for the suggestions. I have thought of rail fence and AZ Jane, I really like your sampler.

I did a quilt for my husband. Bought 3 fabrics that was motorcycles, steam engines, and airplanes. Did an alternating pattern of pinwheel and a solid block. All three fabrics had blue and red in them, so I bought a fabric that reads as a light solid that had blue, red, and mostly white for the contrast in the pinwheels.

If you can find fabric that reflects what his hobbies are, it would be a simple quilt to make that reflect his interests.

3 yard or 5 yard quilts are pretty easy

I'm always stuck on the Yellow Brick Road. I can imagine it in blacks & reds prints. Good Luck in your decision.

Try looking under pictures section and look at Black and White with Color. This would be perfect

Triple rail... My 'go to' block for an easy yet striking guy quilt.

Hello, my husband and I were looking for a quilt pattern for his sister to make for us, and he came upon your post with the carpenters star quilt you made for a male with the blacks and browns and tan colors. We both think it is perfect for what we'd like to have made, but I have been unable to find any quilt block sets with these colors. Would you mind sharing whether you used a set of pre-cut quilt blocks, and if so where did you get it? Thanks so much!

A few years ago, I wanted to make a quilt for a great nephew who was graduating from HS, so I asked his mother what his favorite color was. "Gray" was his answer. Talk about dull! But I found all shades of gray and added a little blue and it turned out great. I used a pattern called Rail Fence Star from Missouri Star Quilt Co. He wrote me the sweetest thank you note, took it to college, and even sent me a picture of him on his dorm bed with it. So glad I made it!

I, too, was going to suggest Rail Fence. But another that is quick and easy is a chevron. Simply 1/2 square triangles set 'zig-zag' and you are done. Those are kinda fun.

While others are suggesting patterns, I'll suggest to make it longer than the pattern calls for. Most young men have very long legs!
