Quilt for young man

My DGD wants me to make a quilt for her boyfriend, he is 21 and a very nice young man. I am stuck on what pattern to use, I want a simple, easy one. She wants it done in reds and black. Any ideas?

or a disappearing 9patch? I also had a friend make a disappearing 4-patch with the blocks different sizes (i.e. 6", 3" 12") and mixed on the quilt---was very interesting that way.

Robin Strobel's "Not Manly Enough" could be done with black strips and red fat quarters http://blog.shopmartingale.com/quilt...-fat-quarters/

Carpenter's Star is always good. I made this for a male. I am waiting on black batting before I can press and quilt it.

I just made a very simple one for my son (it was only my second completed quilt, so I wanted something simple!)

I didn't follow a pattern, just used my 6" wide template for the blue, and cut strips in width of fabric. For the black I did 2 1/2" strips by width of fabric (I have a binding template, so it was perfect). I alternated and sewed the strips together (11 black, 10 blue), then cut into 6" vertical strips, added 2 1/2" black sashing between them + one on each end, and done! End size was approx 54" x 80" (made it for couch/lounging use rather than for the bed).

Take 5! It's quick and easy to do.

sleepyhollow, you did a great job! Hard to believe that is only your second quilt. Keep it up.

Thanks,btiny36.
The original poster could easily use red in there and this pattern is all half square triangles . Piece of cake.

Other great suggestions here as well.
