I am making an apron, some table runners, and some potholders. What other fun/different quilted gifts could I make people for Christmas?

sewjoyce 09-29-2009 04:32 PM

Last year I made several sets of coasters which people seemed to like.

This year, I've made some small wall hangings which will be gifts. Don't know yet if they'll go over very well or not :?:

Pzazz 09-29-2009 04:33 PM

a vest, "green" shopping bags, book markers, tree ornaments, I'll think on some mroe ;)

katier825 09-29-2009 04:34 PM

Tote bags, purses, mug buckets http://www.bucketsgonewild.com/Mug_Bucket.html.

momto4 09-29-2009 04:39 PM

How hard are tote bags? I have seen some really cool ones but have been intimidated by them so far.

trupeach 09-29-2009 04:45 PM

bread basket, tea cozy, hot pad/trivet, I see a theme here let's get out of the kitchen. booty slippers, rice bag's ( a rice bag is a cloth bag filled with rice or beans when you have a pain or ache you microwave it a few minutes and........ instant hot pad) window/door draft ( easy and I fill them with cedar shavings from the pet dept) these are great in a drafty older home This makes a nice gift layered soup mix, you can put fabric on the top of the jar to make it look cute and homey Google layered soup mix they have lots of recipes even for those who don't cook the ingredents are just layered in a jar. I made them last year as gifts, with ribbon I tied a wooden spoon on to the jar. the spoons were from the dollar store. There was a cream of potato soup mix which was great for people who don't cook to make soup hot water is added to a measured amount of mix. It was homemade cup a soup but better. that is all I can think of for now if i think of anything else i will post it.

tote bags are about the easiest thing to sew! and they are super easy to make your own mattern for!
let me find a tutorial like I make them and i'll post it. I use to make about four bags (assembly line style) in about an hour!

momto4 09-29-2009 04:58 PM

WOW ya I would love that!! :D

I've made a couple of things by Lazy Girl Designs (not quilted). I like her patterns Here's the link http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/.

I just bought the pattern and fabric for the Mini Bow Tucks Tote by Quilts Illustrated (this one is quilted). Here is the link for this one. http://www.quiltsillustrated.com/ind...s/Page1849.htm

If you do a search on the Pictures Page of the board, you will see several really nice quilted totes in this pattern, and the larger Bow Tucks Pattern. It's loaded with pockets on the inside! They are what inspired me to purchase the pattern. I was hoping to start tonight, but had my chores to do and didn't have time. Maybe tomorrow! :)

ai731 09-29-2009 05:35 PM

I haven't made them yet, but if I have time I was thinking of making up half-a-dozen quilted re-usable wine bottle totes for taking either a bottle of wine or a couple of jars of preserves to friends' houses over the holiday season.

So far my list includes wine bottle gift bags (with the wine in them), glasses case, iPod cases, cuff bracelets, junior legal pad portfolios, and quilted clocks...all given with quilted gift tags on fabric wrapped packages. :D

oksewglad 09-29-2009 07:46 PM

I am using an old Thimbleberries mini treeskirt pattern for 2 gifts, So mini and regular tree skirts can be on your list, too. Rhonda has checkbook cover instructions on this site among other ideas.

Trupeach...what a great idea. I will have a brand new DIL by Christmas and she's working and goes to school. This will be perfect for her on the nights she's at school. :) :)

Darlene 09-30-2009 11:26 AM

I agree Teri that tute is great.

BellaBoo 09-30-2009 08:13 PM

In the recipes section I posted sometime ago a recipe for Chai Latte Mix. It's fantastic to give as a gift in a pretty tin or jar. It tastes better then any commercial mix from the gourmet shops.

Allfreecrafts.com has lots of ideas. For doggies too. :D

I love quilted baskets!
http://cadouri-din-inima.blogspot.com/2009/02/tutorial-quilted-basket.htmlhttp://<br /> <br /> http://ayumil...ic-basket.html

Or how about Xmas stockings? There are some great tutorials online for those.
Placemats are always a hit here as well ... love those fabric placemats!

I'm also making tree skirts as gifts this year as well. There are several tutorials online. If you are interested in making them I can find the posts and links :)

Handbags. The kind that you use instead of a grocery sack. I have a thickly padded one I use for frozen foods. Lined it with terry cloth. Works great at grocery store and swimming pool.

kankan01 10-01-2009 01:29 PM

I purchased the Quilting Arts Christmas magazine and the mug bucket pattern is in there as well as some other cool ideas. This special issue is 14.99 but I am going to make a bunch of things from it.
Also on my gift list are bookcovers and backpack style purse.

Are quilted clocks for folks who don't do mornings to throw? I can't be the only person here who has chucked an alarm clock.

MaryAnna 10-01-2009 03:20 PM

Hey there! I too plan on wallhangings and table toppers and potholders/coasters.
I love your picture....is the little one a Birman? I have 2 Birmans, Eli & Tuck....love your kittie, he's adorable!

The wine bottle gift bags appeal to me---can you share a pattern? Thanks.

ranger

ghostrider 10-03-2009 07:11 AM

There are a lot of free wine bottle bag patterns online. Here's a sample of one http://www.sewing.com/projects/uploa...ebottlebag.pdf Connecting Threads also has a free one. The one I use is from an old issue of Quilting Arts Gifts, but I have modified it over the years to make it "mine". (How come they never call them Scotch bottle gift bags?) Be sure to put a label in it if you want your work to be known. I know most of mine (the bags, not the bottles) have been "regifted" and that's fine with me!

mimee4 10-03-2009 07:41 AM

I have a granddaughter who is starting college in September 2010. I've got a whole line of things to make for her - laundry holder, pillowcases, basketcovers....

BellaBoo, would you be able to post the link?

I'm not sure where that would be as I'm pretty new to this site...but here's a link for a thread on CopyKat Chat Forum that gets viewed a LOT!

"Dunkin Donuts Vanilla Chai TEA"
http://www.copykatchat.com/showthread.php?t=29474

And here's some other threads that mention chai:

[FYI---if anyone likes to check in occasionally on a recipe board, I'm sure you'll find as I did that CKC Forum is very nice, friendly place! :-) ]

OMG!! :D So many great ideas.
This makes me want to hurry up
& get my Christmas projects done,
so I can do one of these fun ideas!!
:D :D :D :D :D

quilterj 10-03-2009 04:05 PM

Well, I haven't hardly been quilting lately. Yearlier this year I started some potholders and coasters and still have a way to go. So if I don't get busy I won't have any gifts ready. Time is going by so quick and Christmas is almost here.
