How about a quilting charm bracelet?

My hubby bought me a pair of keds sneakers that have a quilt pattern on them (don't know what site on the internet) I know I am getting them because he had me try them on for size w/ my eyes closed -- somehow one eye lid twitched open! Shhh!

#1piecemaker 12-10-2010 05:38 AM

I really don't know what to tell you other than I'm sure what ever you do , your wife will love and appreciate you for it. I personally love quilting books. I love to look at the patterns. I also love cook books. I think all women do.And, lets see. Nobody has mentioned batting. She can always use that. Just make sure you poke around and find the kind she uses. And CHOCOLATE!!! Goes good with anything!!!

rportz 12-10-2010 06:05 AM

Why not design and have made for her fabric labels to put on the items she makes. I would be so impressed if my husband went to that much thought and effort for me.

rportz 12-10-2010 06:07 AM

Design and have made for her fabric labels for the items she makes.

I think whatever you get her, she'll know it came with love and care and she'll appreciate it.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

This is my vote. This gives her a weekend away with only herself to worry/care about.

Or you might see about a gift certificate to a spa day or a massage, etc. Then they can do the pampering.

YOU could even do a weekend away for the two of you and it doesn't have to be all out - just a nice B&B for a night or two and time alone, wonderful meals. Just something to tell her how wonderful you think she is.

CarrieAnne 12-10-2010 06:27 AM

I like the gift card idea........maybe wrapped with a big box of choclates!

maryb119 12-10-2010 06:30 AM

My hsuband gave me a weekend retreat with the LQS one year for Christmas. I was thrilled and had a great time. Gift certificates are good. Maybe get a FQ bundle and add the card to it.

Lilyized 12-10-2010 06:34 AM

Hah, spark plugs! She must keep you around for your sense of humor! Seriously, joining the forum, so you could get suggestions, is priceless. I'd love to receive a gift card, and the time to use it. Merry Christmas!

maine ladybug 12-10-2010 06:39 AM

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but I love my design wall that I got last Christmas. You can find them on-line that are portable or one's you place on a wall. Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

stitchofclass2 12-10-2010 06:44 AM

How is her "pressing station"? Maybe she would like the new ironing board that is quite a bit bigger and is a long rectangle. Don't know what they call it but it is almost always shown in the Keepsake Quilts catalog. Good luck. Y

flikkem 12-10-2010 06:55 AM

A gift card, but to be romantic, for every dollar, include a reason you love her.

katyquilter 12-10-2010 06:57 AM

I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet, but a nice quilt rack to display her quilts would be good. I love mine.

Willa 12-10-2010 07:05 AM

Hope she posts something for you soon!

You are very kind. I will post a new thread sometime today and PM you.

I like the idea that many have proposed about a retreat. It doesn't even have to be a formal retreat with a group of quilters . I've taken a night or two away with my machine, ironing board ,and project and stayed in a hotel ( with room service) and just spent some quality time sewing. It's marvelous. No phone, no child to deal with, no meals to make, no laundry to fold....

The hardest thing is that while we're (almost) all ladies, we're all different. But you'll browse these ideas and find what might be perfect for your gal. This is a great group of suggestions.

dungeonquilter 12-10-2010 08:58 AM

Does she have the big ironing board? I would love for my DH to give me one for Christmas.

My husband just gave me one. Boy do I love it. It is actually a tabble 6x2 1/2 feet and has a thick wool felt wool pad.

http://usaus.us/cart/quilters-ironin...-tone-p-6.html

It is not just an ironning board. It is made so much better, commercial style.

AtHomeSewing 12-10-2010 09:14 AM

Wow, so many great ideas already posted!

The thing that I loved was my hubby helping me fix up my sewing room. He put in lots of light, ran an additional electrical circuit. Helped me to build two design walls and helped me make a large press top for my cutting table. Any one of those things could be wonderful.

I need help in chosing a great gift for my favorite quilter. In these troubled times, money is a little tight but I am sure there is enough for something nice. Maybe not a new quilting machine but she already has a big monster that must be 10' long and a Genomie sewing machine to boot. She has enough fabric to quilt Rhode Island and maybe Vermont to boot. So, what is a DH to do?

Is there anything that comes close to being a romantic quilting gift? I want this to be a special Christmas for her. I don't want to buy another set of spark plugs and wrench so she can change them herself again. Hey, a couple of years ago the plugs made her car run better but it hurt when she hit me with the wrench. Oil for her car is out too.

Suggestions please.

Wally

Wally ----- I am sending you a PM with an idea for you that my DH designed and makes.

Ragann63 12-10-2010 09:43 AM

I actually took my mom to a quilt retreat this year for her Christmas gift. It was our fourth one and has become a tradition. I think that is a great idea and probably not one she will be expecting!!

As for gadgets, does she have a sidewinder? That is a little machine that winds bobbins. I also love my large thread holder (a big metal dowel on a weight that sits behind the machine and holds the really big thread spools.) And, my mustache trimmer for tearing out seams. Those are some small, inexpensive items she would have to unwrap.

Good luck!! Merry Christmas!

MsSewer 12-10-2010 10:42 AM

I always love gift cards. My best idea would be a gift card(s) wrapped up with a fabric with hearts on it.

ggoens 12-10-2010 10:52 AM

This would be my preference as well, a great idea! Gift Card, candles...

Izaquilter 12-10-2010 10:57 AM

How about a bendable light? They are wonderful. A supreme slider (for free motion quilting) some thread, some batting, fabric, 6 yds of backing fabric & a her favorite CD!

Treasureit 12-10-2010 11:03 AM

I just thought of something I would like so maybe your wife would too. I little vacuum to clean her machine. I don't know if they make such a thing for machines, but they do for computers so I bet it would work on a machine.

MadP 12-10-2010 11:06 AM

I am assuming by this time she has an ott light. I have a floor model, I told my DH I needed a table ott light for my embroidery machine.

darlin121 12-10-2010 12:39 PM

After reading this posting I am now able to give a list to my husband for MY Christmas gifts! LOL I even printed out the instuctions for the Big ironing board and left it on top of his desk. Maybe he will get the hint?
As for what to get your wife as a gift what about a coupon book you make up yourself for time? For example: 6 hours of uninterrupted quilt time, 2 hours of my time to clean the kitchen, an evening out- just the two of us, 2 hours of helping you pick out colors/fabrics. There are a hundred that run through my brain. Time is the one thing that is so hard to find and give. I love the time I get to spend with my hubby who is a very busy man.

fairydawn 12-10-2010 01:18 PM

Gift Certificate to her favorite quilting store.

Sounds like she has a longarm machine - how about a new attachment for it, or a new pattern?

sueisallaboutquilts 12-10-2010 01:39 PM

Wally, when I read your post I couldn't stop laughing! You're a funny guy but also a VERY sweet and considerate one :)
Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
PS. I have nothing to add- lots of great ideas here!

Treasureit 12-10-2010 01:41 PM

Hope we will hear what you actually did for her!

STAR 12-10-2010 01:51 PM

my DH stops to buy me precut fabrics and new threads

She may be a member of this board !! if so, please post some suggestions for this great guy. I know gift cert. don't seem too romantic---but a stack of green-all your own--would pack an impact ! time--do something monthly for her that allows her to have some time to herself to do whatever she wants.

jitkaau 12-10-2010 04:23 PM

Personally, I like to receive specialty rules that take the math out of making interesting quilt blocks e.g. the lazy angle rule, the X block, the twister, the mini ray etc.etc. These usually come with a pattern book or a set of instructions. If your wife also likes gadgets, perhaps you could give her the rule with instruction book. That way, she can utilise some of the stash that she already has.

Yes, this is a very handy suggestion. I bought one at the last quilt show - to clean out my overlocker.(That's what we call a "serger"). It does a great job.

Did you join this quilting board just for help for a Christmas gift? How sweet!!! Just by doing that to find the best gift is a great gift in itself. Whatever you get her will be special to her. My DH always gets me some what he calls "chubby squares" (fat quarters) that go together, a quilt mag. and other quilting items for my stocking. I'm always surprised . Maybe you could get her a quilt mag. and fabric to make a quilt from it. Merry Christmas!! :)

sherriequilts 12-10-2010 05:28 PM

And how about a subscription to Quilt Mania or Quilting Arts, or some other quilting magazine she doesn't already get. Barnes and Noble and Borders have them. You could always put some GREEN between the pages!!!

StitchinJoy 12-10-2010 05:36 PM

I always get a gift certificate to the local quilt shop and I love that!

Also, we quilters always run through lots of thread a rotary blades. Sneak in her sewing room and see what size rotary cutter she has, and what type of thread she has. Then you can buy her a few of each at the quilt shop when you go get the gift card.

Notice which quilt magazines she gets as a subscription, and pick up some different ones at the quilt shop too.

Many have noted that time is a gift and I concur. My dh cooks dinner once a week and it's such a pleasure to have that extra time. He makes grilled cheese with tomato soup, or Western omelet, sometmes grills burgers and makes salad, nothing fancy. But I feel lucky and pampered as the Queen of England.

Best of luck to you!

I want to thank you for putting up that site. I have been trying to get my hubby to make me a big board for my ironing board and his excuse was he didn't have a pattern. Well, not anymore. Thanks again!! Happy holidays. What about getting a gift certificate for Connecting Threads. I could find many things I would love from there.

Farm Quilter 12-10-2010 06:14 PM

I know that I would love a gift certificate for thread from Superior Threads for my longarm quilting. They have so many different kinds and colors, that I am sure they would have thread her machine would love! You can never have too much thread!!!
